Description

PATENTED 0011.1, 1907.
D. B. RAWSON.
SHADE PULL. APPLIOATION FILED BEPT.17. 1906. I
PATENT OFFICE.
DELIA B. RAWSON, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
SHADE-PULL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 1, 1907.
Application filed September 17, 1906. Serial No- 334,902.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DELIA B. RAWSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shade-Pulls, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of shade pulls that are attached directly to the window shade stiffening bar; and an object thereof is to provide a device that when operated will permit the shade to roll up evenly on its roller without mutilating its edges or cracking the shade, and at the same time to provide a device that is ornamental. I accomplish this object by means of the device described herein and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure lis a perspective view of a window frame with a window shade in place thereon and with my improved pull secured thereto. Fig. 2-is a front eleva tion of my device secured to the shade. Fig. 3is a cross section of the clamp.
Heretofore great difliculty has been experienced in operating window shades mounted on the ordinary type of Hartshorn roller for the reason that with ordinary shade pulls it was almost impossible to raise a shade evenly as the pull necessary to operate the shade is usually exerted sidewise, thus causing the shade to be raised unevenly and thereby mutilating its edges. By my improved device the power necessary to operate the shade is exerted centrally and vertically, thus causing the shade to be rolled up evenly on its roller without mutilation.
Referring to the drawings 5 designates the shade and .6 the stiffening bar secured to the lower edge thereof.
Secured to the stiffening bar and in the center thereof is a U-shaped metallic clamp 7. The outer end of this U-shaped clamp has apertures 8 through which pass screw eyes 9 which enter the stiffening bar 6. These screw eyes are secured to the bar 6 equal distances from the center. Secured directly in the center of the stiffening bar 6 by means of chains 10 is a metallic pull ring 11. A cord 12 may be attached to this ring so the shade may be raised to its fullest extent. A central screw-eye 14 enters an opening in the lower end of the clamp and passed upward into the stiffening bar and serves to anchor the clamp in its original position, thereby holding the clamp against lateral strain resulting from the tension exerted upon the chains connecting with the central ring. Such tension would otherwise tend to loosen the end screw-eyes and give the clamp a slight movement, which would disfigure the shade. Ornamental chains 13 are secured to the screw eyes 9 and 14 and other forms of ornament may be supplied.
It will be observed that I have produced a device by means of which an even pull is exerted centrally on the shade so that it will raise vertically and prevent the mutilation of its edges.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1- 1. The combination with a clamp adapted to grasp the stiffening bar of a window shade at a point midway thereof, of fastening devices passing through the bent portion of the said clamp at the center and near each end thereof and entering the lower edge of the stiffening bar, a ring below the central fastening device, and chains of equal length connecting the ring with the fastening devices at the ends of the clamp.
2. The combination with a clamp adapted to grasp the stiffening bar of a window shade at a point midway there of, of fastening devices passing through the bent portion In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 12th day of Sept, 1906.
DELIA B. RAWSON.
