GAR CONSTRUCTION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, 1907.
Application filed March 30, 1907. Serial No. 365,469.
vania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvemerit in GarConstructions, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification,
in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a sheathing plate constructed in accordance with my invention; and, Fig. 2
is an end view of said plate.
This invention relates to car constructions, and par- 7 ticularly to the rnetal'sheathing plates that form the sides of cars. I
The object of my invention is to provide a sheathing plate having strengthening ribsrpressed therein and which is free from wrinkles at the end portions of said ribs.
In the drawings which represent the preferred form of my invention, 1 designates a metal plate having one or more ribs 2 pressed therein to strengthen said plate and prevent it from buckling. After these ribs have been pressed in the plate wrinkles form in the plate at the ends of these ribs and thus detract greatly from the appearance oi the plate. To draw out these wrinkles I provide the plate adjacent the ends of the ribs or corruga tions 2 with a corrugation 3 extending transversely thereof. The wrinkles that form at the lower ends of the ribs 2 can be drawn out in the same manner; namely, by providing the plate with a transversely extendir corrugation, or the plale can be provided with a laterally extending flange 4. The transversely cxtending corrugation 3 and the flange 4 not only strengthen the plate but also draw out any "wrinkles that were formed by pressingthc ribs 2, as previohsly described, so that the plate presents a neat and ornamental appearance and can be used advantageously for the side sheathing of a car.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
' 1. A car part comprising a flat plate provided with pressed ribs or corrugations, and a corrugation formed in said plate adjacent one end of said ribs and extending transversely thercoffsubstantially as described. a
J. A car part comprising a fiat metal plate having ribs or corrugations pressed therein, and a pressed rib formed in said plate adjacent the ends of the ribs first referred to and extending transversely thereof; substantially as described. i
3. A car part comprising a metal plate provided with pressed ribs or corrugations, an integral flange at one edge of said plate extending transversely of said ribs, and a ,cm-rugation formed in said plate adjacent the opposite ends of said ribs and extending transversely thereof; substantially as described.
4. A metal sheathing plate for the side of a car, provided with vertically disposed pressed ribs, an integral flange at the lower edge said plate, and a ridge or corrugation pressed in said plate adjacent the upper ends of said vertically disposed ribs and extending transversely thereof; substantially as described. I
in testimony whereof I herelinto nilix my signature in v the presence of two witnesses, this 22d day of March 65 1907.
