Description

United States Patent O HOT WATER BOTTLE COVER Mary Suciu, Fostoria, Mich. Application September 28, 1954, Serial No. 458,892
2 Claims. (Cl. 15G-52) This invention relates to a cover for a hot water bottle.
It is an object of this invention to provide acover for a hot water bottle which is ornamental in that it completely conceals the bottle and which is practical in that it enables the bottle to be suspended from a wall hook while completely concealed.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a cover for a hot water bottle having a pocket for retaining accessories for the hot water bottle, the pocket at the same time providing an extra insulating layer when the bottle enclosed within the cover is positioned against the body of a person with the pocket side of the cover adjacent the persons body.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the cover of this invention in a position enclosing a hot water bottle shown in phantom suspended from a wall hook or the like.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the cover of this invention shown enclosing a hot water bottle in use.
Figure 3 is a sectional view along the lines 3-3 in Figure l.
Figures 4 and 5 show two different positions of the hot water bottle and cover of this invention as used in connection with a persons body.
The hot water bottle cover of this invention, designated 10, comprises a pair of generally rectangular- shaped fabric panels 12 and 14. In the embodiment illustrated, panel 12 comprises the front panel of the cover and panel 14 comprises the rear panel. These two panels are sewed together by stitching 16 adjacent and spaced inwardly of the side edges of the cover and stitching 18 spaced inwardly of and adjacent an upper edge of the cover. The panels thus form an enclosure for a hot water bottle shown in broken lines and generally designated 22. A central gap 24 is provided by the stitching 18 to accommodate the support tab 26 of the hot water bottle. This support tab is apertured as illustrated so that it can be suspended from a hook 28 secured to a wall. Adjacent their lower ends panels 12 and 14 are provided with a pair of spaced snap fasteners 30. These snap fasteners permit opening the lower end of the cover for inserting a hot water bottle between the panels 12 and 14. When the fasteners 30 are snapped together, they prevent removal of the cover from the hot water bottle.
It will be observed that panels 12 and 14 overlie the entire extent of the hot water bottle 22. Panels 12 and 14 extend outwardly beyond the side edges of the hot water bottle and also cover the support tab 26 at one end of the bottle and the filling spout 32 at the other end of the bottle. Thus, when the bottle 22 is arranged within the cover as illustrated, it may be suspended from a wall hook 28 in a completely concealed condition.
To the front face panel 1.2 there is sewed a third panel 34. Panel 34 is slightly smaller than panel 12 but is dimensioned and arranged on panel 12 such that it will substantially completely overlie a hot water bottle lCC arranged between panels 12 and 14. Panel 34 is attached to the front face of panel 12 by the stitching 16 along -its opposite side edges and by the stitching 36 along its lower downwardly converging edges 38. Along its upper edge 40 panel 34 is not connected with panel 12 and may be fashioned with an ornamental ap 42. Panel 34 co-operates with panel 12 to forni a pocket 44 on the front face of the cover in which accessories such as shown at 46 may be retained.
The cover 10 is fashioned from a relatively heavy fabric material which possesses some heat-insulating qualities and at the same time which is highly water absorbent. Material such as Turkish toweling has been found admirably suited for the fabrication of cover 10.
When the hot water bottle is not in use, it may be enclosed within cover 10 and suspended from a wall hook 28 in the manner shown in Figure 1. Cover 10 completely conceals the water bottle, and the accessories may also be retained in a concealed fashion within pocket 44. In this position the hot water bottle may also be used as by attaching the accessories 46 to the iilling spout 32 (Figure 2).
The cover 10 may also be used to enclose a hot water bottle when the bottle is employed for heating a portion of a persons body. In this connection, it will be noted that when the cover 10 and the bottle 22 are positioned against the persons body 48 with the rear panel 14 interposed between bottle 22 and the persons body, the panel 14 provides an insulating layer of single thickness.
When the bottle is originally lled with hot water, it may be too hot to place directly against the persons body. In this case, the bottle with the cover would be arranged as shown in Figure 5 with the front panel 12 and panel 34 interposed between the bottle 22 and the body 48. In this position an insulating layer of double thickness is provided between the users body and the hot water bottle. After the water in the bottle has cooled slightly or in those instances where it is desired to apply more heat, the cover 10 and bottle 22 are turned over to the position illustrated in Figure 4.
Thus, it will be seen that I have provided a cover for a hot water bottle designed to completely conceal the bottle both during use and when it is stored, such as by being hung on a Wall hook. In addition, the cover is provided with a pocket in which the bottle accessories may be conveniently stored in a completely concealed condition when not in use. The cover which forms the pocket also has another very important function. It provides an extra insulating layer when desired between the hot water bottle and the users body.
The fabrication of the cover out of a material such as Turkish toweling is another desirable feature of the present invention. Turkish toweling provides the necessary insulating effect that is in most cases required when a hot water bottle is positioned against a persons body. The outer faces of these bottles are invariably wetted with water when they are filled or emptied. The use of the cover 10 eliminates the necessity for drying the bottle either when used or when stored. At the some time the cover absorbs any condensation formed on the bottle, such as when it is used as an ice pack, for example.
.I claim:
l. A cover for a hot water bottle of the type com prising a generally flat, exible container of rectangular shape having a filling spout projecting from one end and a support tab projecting from the: other end, said cover having front and rear fabric panels of generally rectangular shape secured together along their side edges and dimensioned to receive a hot water bottle therebetween, means generally closing one end of said cover 3 along a line spaced Vinwardly from the adjacent end edge of the cover and providing a central opening between said panels through which said support tab may be projected, said closure means being spaced inwardly of saidend edge a distance such that when said support tab is projected through said central opening, the portions of said panels between said closure means and said end Vedge of the cover substantially overlie the support tab, the extent of said cover between said closure means and the opposite end edge of the cover being sufficient to substantially completely overlie the water bottle when inserted therein with the support tab projecting through said central opening, and releasable fastening members for interconnecting said panels together along a line spaced inwardly from said opposite end edge to retain the Water bottle in said cover in a substantially com pletely concealed condition, said releasable fastening means being generally symmetrically disposed on opposite sides of the longitudinal center line of said cover for accommodating said filling spout therebetween.
2. A cover for a hot water bottle of the type compris ing a generally flat, flexible container having a filling spout projecting from one end and an apertured support tab projecting from ythe lother end, said cover having front and rear fabric panels secured together along their side edges and dimensioned to receive the hot water bottle therebetween, means closing said cover adjacent one end thereof and providing a central opening between said panels through which said support tab may project, the opposite end of said cover being generally ope-n and Ibeing provided with releasable fastening mernbers adapted to secure the: end portions of said panels together at the opposite end of the cover to retain the hot water bottle therein, said releasable fastening members being disposed on opposite sides of the longitudinal center line of said cover for accommodating said filling spout therebetween, and a third fabric panel overlying and secured to one of said panels and forming therewith a pocket for retaining accessories 'for the hot water bottle, said pocket being kopen adjacent the end of the cover that is generally closed and provided with said central opening, whereby'the hot water bottle may be 'inserted in said cover and suspended in a verticalposition by means of said support tab while accessories are retained within said pocket.
