My invention relate generally to containers. More particularly my invention is directed toward an improved construction for containers adapted for use in dispensing gummed paper therefrom.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a container for gummed paper which shall be constructed from a single sheet of material and so arranged that the gummed paper may be readily dispensed therefrom and which at the same time shall be provided with a specifically designed pocket for seals and/or labels, so that the householder and small-ofiice user may have his supply of gummed paper and labels in a single handy container.
Another object of my invention is to provide a one-piece container for gummed paper, of the character described, which shall be provided with a novel integral flap adapted to serve as a cutting edge for the gummed paper.
A further object of my invention is to provide a container for gummed paper of the type de-' scribed, which shall be characterized by the simplicity and economy of its manufacture and by a high degree of practicality and usefulness, and which shall represent a general improvement in the art.
Other objects of my invention will become apparent from the description to follow or will hereinafter be pointed out.
In the accompanying drawings,
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a blank designed so that the same may be folded to produce a container in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the container of my invention after it has been made up from the blank shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the made-up container of my invention illustrating the use of the specifically designed cutting flap for cutting off a desired length of gummed paper;
Fig. 4 is an enlarged plan view of my container, with the top cover and flap in open position in order to illustrate more clearly the special pocket created for holding labels; and
Fig. 5 is an enlarged cross-sectional view taken substantially along the line 55 of Fig. 2.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, I have I shown, in Fig. 1. a blank A which has been stamped out of any suitable sheet material, such as, for example, cardboard and from which single piece of material I construct my container for holding a roll of gummed paper of the kind in general use, the said blank A, when folded, in the manner to be described, also providing a pocket suitable for holding a supply of labels or seals and a top flap folded over on itself to form a relatively rigid edge against which a desired length of gummed paper, dispensed from the roll, may be cut. The dot and dash lines represent fold linen.
As shown in the remaining figures of the drawings the container when folded onthe dot and dash fold lines indicated in Fig. 1 comprises a front wall II, a back wall I2 and side walls I3 and I4, the said front, back and side walls being integral. A flap 28 integral with and extending from the side I3 may be adhesively attached to the back wall H to maintain the container in proper assembled position. Integral with the top and bottom edges of the back wall I2 are the top wall portion I6 having a folded portion I1 serving as a flap, and the bottom wall portion I5 having a folded flap portion I8 to completely close the container at the top and bottom. Integral with the top and bottom edges of the side wall I3 are auxiliary side flap members 26 and 21 adaped to be folded inwardly toward each other. Corresponding auxiliary side flap members 22 and 23 are integral with opposite edges of the side wall I4. The pair of corresponding flaps 23 and 26 are adaptedto underlie the top wall portion I6, while the pair of corresponding flaps 22 and 21 are adapted to overlie the bottom wall portion I5 to reinforce and strengthen the container. In accordance with my invention I provide the flap 23 with an integral extending portion 24, substantially equal in size to the flap 23 and fold the said portion 24 on the fold line 25 to form a folded edge B.
As shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings thesaid folded edge B is disposed inwardly from the side wall I4 and forms a relatively rigid edge against which the gummed paper may be cut.
According to the present invention, I also provide an integral pocket portion in the container adjacent the inner surface of the front wall II, integral with the bottom edge of said front wall and comprising an inverted T-shaped portion consisting of a central wall portion I9 and integral oppositely extending side flaps 20 and 2|. The central portion I9 is folded substantially in half and the flaps 20 and 2| folded inwardly toward each other so that the flap 2| will lie adjacent the inner surface of the side wall I3 while the flap 20 will lie adjacent the inner surface of the side wall I4.
It is thus seen from the above described construction that the pocket thus formed integrally .gummed paper of the kind well known to the art and desired lengths may be unrolled therefrom, pulling the same out of the top of the container.
To facilitate access to the pocket portion for removal of labels or seals the top edge of the front wall Ii may be provided with a notched portion as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings.
In accordance with the provisions of the Patent statutes, I have herein describedthe principle and operation of my invention, together with the apparatus which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, but I desire to have it understood that the apparatus shown is only illustrative and that the invention can be carried out by other means. Also, while it is designed to use the various features and elements in thecombination and relations described, some of these may be altered and others omitted without interfering with the more general results outlined, and the invention extends to such use.
Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a container of the character described for housing a supply of gummed paper and formed of integral front, back,'side. and bottom walls, a
pocket in said container, said pocket comprising an auxiliary wall integral with the bottom edge of said front wall, and connected thereto by a folded edge and slightly spaced inwardly theretom edge of said front wall and connected thereto by a folded edge and integral oppositely extending side flaps, the said central portion being folded 2o lying the inner surfaces from a single sheet of material, the combination 30 substantially in half and the said side flaps overof said side walls.
