This invention relates to powder container and blower packages, the same being an improvement upon my earlier invention disclosed by Patent Number 2,302,591, issued November 17, 1942.
With reference to the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line I-I of Figure 2; Figure 2 isia top plan view of the package; Figure 31s a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view of the package with the tube extended therefrom ready for use; Figure 4 is another longitudinal sectional view on the line 4--4 of Figure 1; Figure 5 is a cross-sectional view on the line 55 of the Figure 1; Figure 6 is a detail cross-sectional view in perspective of the bottom of package; Figure 7 is an enlarged perspective sectional view of flanged enclosing members; Figure 8 is a detail cross-sectional view on theline 88 of Figure 1; Figure 9is a top plan viewof a modified package; and Figure 10 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view on the line III-40 of Figure 9.
With more particular reference to the accompanying drawing, the tubular container I of the package is provided with the flexible side structure I and a permanently closedend 2. A filler element comprises the cylindrical wooden block 3 and the flanged paper discs 5 and 1. The block 3 has a central bore 4 therethrough and 'is fix- I edly enclosed 'by the discs 5 and I, the upper disc 5 having the flange 5' and the central perforation 6, and the lower disc "I having the flange 'l' and the central perforation 8. The discs 5 and 'l are each sealed to the topand bottom surfaces of the block 3, respectively, and the flanges 5' and 1' are each sealedto the inner surface of the tubular side structure I adjacent the upper end 2 of the package. The disc 5 is the floor of a chamber 9 which has no communication with the powder portion of the container I excepting through said'perforation 6, bore 4, and perforation 8. An adhesive element G is employed to seal the filler element parts.
The cap I5 for the tubular container package may be made movable or immovable or movable in part.' The cap I5 consists of an annular flat top, having the spaceous annular opening I5 and the annular flange I'l extendingat rightangles therefrom. The opening I5 is provided thereunder with the transparent sheet insert I6 of celluose acetate, the cap thus described being placed upon the end 2 of the package to enclose the chamber 9. lj The tube I2 at its lower end is provided with the tubular enlargement I3 and the oppositefree end I4 is slidingly inserted through the perforablock 3 and the perforation 6 of the upper paper disc 5 before the filler element is secured and sealed to the side structure I. The perforations I5 and 8 ofthe paper discs 5 and I of the filler element are intended to be capable of frictionally holding the tube [2 in 'any longitudinal adjustment therein, while the bore 4 in the block 3 is made sufficiently large toallow for atmospheric changes of the wooden block 3. The tube I2 within the container I is preferably of such length that its enlarged end I3 contacts with, and rests upon, the bottom 2' of the container I, but may be less long if desired. Whatever the length of the tube I2 maybe, it is maintained, for the purposes of shipment, as illustrated by the Figures 1 and 2, within the container I, I

that the'tube end I4 is firmly presented against the under surface of the sheet insert I6 of the cap I5, such contactof the tube end I4 and the insert I5 constituting a closurefor the tube I2 and hence for the powder container portion of the package. A I
, Depending, by means of the fasteners II,. from the filler element are the two arms of the spring means II}, each contacting under tension diametrically opposite one another with the, inner surface of the flexible tubular side structure I, approximately along the dotted lines 5-5 of the Figure 1.
The packageis not intended to be refilled. The powder is placed within the container I before it is scaled up by means of the filler element. The initial powder content is limited to about two-thirds of the containers cubic capacity. The package fully assembled as aforesaid and with its powder content is ready for shipment, as illustrated by the Figure 1.
In the hands of the user, the cap IS, with its insert l6,is eliminated in whole or in part. The tube 12 which before the elimination of the cap I I5 may be seenthrough the transparent insert 16, can now be manually pulled out to its extended position limited by the engagement of the enlargement IS with the annular wall of the perforation 8 of the lower disc, I of the filler element, as illustrated by the Figure 3.
With the free end M of the tube I2 directed upon the object to be dusted, the container I may be alternately contracted, and expanded from its contracted condition, by means of intermittent squeezing operation of the flexible side structure I by the pressure of a thumb and finger at approximately along the dotted line inclusive, of the package.

- Figures 9 and illustrate a slight modification of the form illustrated by the Figures 1 to 8, This modification utilizes the same container I and flexible side structure I as the preferred form, but dispenses with the chamber 9 and introduces in place thereof the chamber 9 provided by and within the annular wooden block 3 having the bore 4' therethrough, the bore 4" being counterbored to provide the chamber 9. The wooden block 3' is formed out of kiln-dried wood treated with drying oil to avoid subsequent atmospheric changes in dimensions and therefore is fitted snugly to and held within the side structure I flush with the top rim 2 of the container I. A disc 5", having the central perforation 6 is fitted within and secured to the base oi the chamber 9 by means of an adhesive element. The tube I2, as in the instance of the tube I2 of the Figures 1 and 2,may be of'any length limited only by the container I. The tube I2, illustrated by the Figure 10, intentionally omits the enlarged end, present as at I3 in the Figures 1,
3 and 4, but if desired, the modification may inv clude such enlargement. In assembling without such enlargement; either end of the tube I2 may be inserted from the exterior within the chamber 9 and into the perforation 6 of the disc 5", bore 4 in the wooden block 3 and perforation 8 of the disc 1' before the cap I5 is placed over the container top, the tube I2 being adjustably held within the container I by means of the perforations 6' and 8 during shipment orextended for use. In assembling the modification involving a tube I 2 with an enlarged end, as at I3 in Figures 1, 3 and 4, of course the free end I I wouldhave to be inserted through the filler element from its bottom side as explained and illustrated with regard to the Figures 1, 3 and 4.
In the form illustrated by the Figure 10, as well as the Figures 1, 3 and 4, the flanged cap I5" or I5 may be removable or permanently secured to the container I by means of an adhesive element. In the modified form, the cap I5 is provided with an opening I 5" of a diameter equal at least to that of the chamber 9'. A
transparent insert I6 is'secured to the cap I5 in any desired manner beneath the opening I5, and the tube I2 is so longitudinally adjusted within the filler element as to be firmly presented to the under surface of the insert IS', such contact, as in the instance of the form illustrated In the hands of the user of the modified form 1 of package, the cap I5" is eliminated in whole orin part to manually reach and extend the tube I2 which first may be seen through the transparent insert I6, such elimination being accomplished by either removing the cap I5, if removable, or puncturing the insert I6 of an immovable cap I5.
In either form of package, should the tube I2 or I2 become clogged with powder, an insertion of a wire within such tube will readily free the tube interior for use.
While the wooden block 3' is herein described as being secured: to the side structure I, it is to be understood that such block 3", if desired may just as well be secured to the under surface of the cap I5 where the cap I5 is made immovable. In that event, the insert I6 would then have to be secured upon the top surface of the cap I5 over the opening I 5" and a disc (not illustrated) having a central opening would be marginally secured to the top surface of the transparent insert I6.
I claim:
1. A powder container and blower package comprising an elongated hollow body having a.
flexible side wall, said body'having a fixed lower capped end and a removable upper capped end; I
a filler within said body and having a central opening, said filler separating the interior of the body into a powder containing portion adjoining said lower end and a chamber portion adjoining said upper end, said opening connect-" ing the powder containing portion and the chamber portion; a tube slidably positioned snugly within said opening for longitudinal adjustment therein; an enlargement on the lower end of said tube; said upper capped end constituting a closure means and firmly engaging the upper end of said tube; means by which the upper capped end may be eliminated in whole or in part to make the tube accessible for manual extension; and spring means suspended from the lower end of said filler and extending within said powder containing portion, said spring means engaging opposite inner surfaces of said wall to augment the flexibility of said wall, thereby insuring immediate return to normal of said wall after it has been partially collapsed.
2. A powder container and blower package comprising an elongated hollow body having a flexible side wall, said body being provided with a fixed lower end; a filler within said body and taining portion consisting of a capped upper end of said body and having a transparent insert firmly engaging the upper. end of said tube; and an enlargement on the lower end of said tube, said closure means being adapted to be eliminated in whole or in part to cessible for manual extension 3. A powder container and blower package comprising an elongated hollo body with flex- 1ble side wall and a closed lower end; a filler within said body and having an opening, saidmake the tube acfiller separating the interior of the body into a. powder containing portion adjoining said lower end and a chamber adjoining the upper end of said body, said opening connecting the container portion and the chamber portion; a tube slid-f ably and snugly positioned within said opening l for longitudinal adjustment therein; and a closure forsaid tube, said closure consisting of a capped upper end of said body andlfirmly engaging the upper end of said tube.
4. A powder container and comprising an elongated hollow body with an inwardly collapsible side wall and a closed lower end; a filler within said body and having an opening therethrough connectedwith the interior of said body adjoining said lower end; a tube slidably and snugly positioned within said opening for longitudinal adjustment therein; a closure means for said tube, saidclcsure consisting of an upper capped end of said body and having a transparent insert firmly engaging; the upper end of said tube; andmeans by which the upper cupped end may be eliminated in part to expose the tube for manual extension.
5. A powder package comprising an elongated hollow body having a lower closed end and an upper capped end; a filler Within the hollow body adjacent said upper end thereof and having an opening therethrough, the filler separating the interior of the body into a powder containing portion adjoining said lower end and a chamber portion adjoining said upper end; a
blower package bellows for blowing tube slidingly and snugly positioned within said opening for longitudinal adjustment therein;
said upper capped end constituting a closure means for the container and firmly engaging the upper end of said tube; and means by which the upper capped end of said body is made removable to provide access to the said upper end of the tube for manual extension.
6. A powder blower package comprising a container having an inwardly collapsible side wall, said container having a removable capped upper end anda permanently closed lower end; a filler fixedly mounted within; the container adjacent said capped upper end and provided with an opening therethrough; and a tube slidably positioned within said opening for longitudinal adjustment therein, said container constituting a powder content fro-mwithin the container through the tube for dispensing said content at its outer end; said cappedupper end constituting a detachable closure for said container and firmly engaging the upper end of said tube.
7. A powder blower package comprising an elongated hollow body having a capped upper end, said body including a container portion having apermanentlyclo-sed lower end; a filler within said body adjacent said capped upper end and having an opening therethrough, the open ing communicating with said container portion; and a tube slidingly and snugly positioned within said opening for longitudinal adjustment therein; said capped upper end constituting a closure for the upper end of said tube and firmly engaging said upper end. i
8. A powder blower package comprising a casing including a flexible side wall and a closed lower end; a filler within the upper end of the casing and separating therein an upper chamber portion from a powder containing portion; an opening extending through said filler and connecting the chamber portion and the powder containing portion; a tube slidingly andsnugly positioned within said opening and adapted to be moved therein to two extreme andintermediate positions; and a cover fitted over and closing said upper chamber and firmly engaging the upper end of said tube. l
