My invention relates to adjustable margin bars and feeding devices for duplicating machines with special reference to that class of machines provided with a yflat gelatinized n printing surface over which a platen carriage having suitable platen roller is arranged to travel.
In this type of machine, the paper, or a suitable card is inserted in the carriage and i0 the platen roller impresses the original .or the copy sheet on the gelatinized printing surface which receives the impression from the original sheet and transfers it to the copy sheet. l

ln positioning the original or copy sheets 2o on the gelatinized surface it is necessary to provide a suitable marginstop bar in order that the desired uniform margin will be obtained on the copies and that the paper may be accurately located with relation to the carl 25 riage and feed rolls.
In my invention I have provided a convenient means for accomplishing the desired results and it has for one of its vobjects the provision of a combined adjustable margin bar and feeding device which .will provide an effective paper locating means and which will not interfere inany Way With the operation of the carriageor the movementof the platen roller. f
Another object is to provide an automatic adjustable marginbar in which the Width of the margin may be predetermined and accurately adj usted.
Another object is to provide a margin bar automatically controlled by the operator through the normal movement of the carriage handle.
A further obj ect is the provision of a manually adjustable automatically controlled margin bar which lis supported on and carried by the carriage.

The member 38 is hinged beneath the paper table by means of the pivots 39 engaging in the downtu'rned ears 40 as illustrated in Figs. 2, 8 and 4. The member 38 is normally held in the position illustrated in Fig. 4 by means of the spring 41 and in this position the margin bar is held in engagement with the paper table and in a position to support any paper laid thereon The releasing member 38 is provided with the outwardly extending ear 42 and it is obvious that when the ear 42 is pushed downwardly the margin bar will be raised from the paper table`v through the cooperation 'of the pin35 engaging in the slot 36.A

A pin 45 on the carriage is arranged to engage in the notch 46 in the handle to allow a limited movement of the handle with relation to the carriage.
A link 47 is connected to the handle and extends to a point adjacent the ear 42 of the margin bar releasing' member'. When the handle is pushed rearwardly to move the carriage over the printing surface the limited movement of the handle with relationY to the carriage allows the end of the link 47 to move downwardly and engage the ear 42 moving the releasing member 38 downwardly and raising the margin bar and allowing any paper which may have been yplaced on the papertable to be released.
In order that'the'paper when released by the margin bar maybe moved into engagement with the platen roller and'pressure roller, I have provided an automatic paper feeding device comprising a roller 48`supported on the arms 49 which are pivotally mounted in alignment withV the shaft of the platen roller as illustrated. The roller 48 isrotated from the platen roller shaft by means of the belt 50 and the pulleys 18 and 51. The arms 4.9,are provided with pins 52 engaging in the slotsrinthe` links '47. rlhc relative position of the pins in the slots causes the roller 48 to be heldv out of engagement with the paper table when the handle is in the forward position villustrated in the drawings.
When thehandle is moved rearwardly the limited movement of the handle which raises the margin bar also releases the roller 48 for engagement with the paper on the paper table. Thel timing of these movements is such that the roller engages the paper at approximately the same time that it is released by the margin bar, and as the carriage is then moved rearwardly the roller 48will be rotated by means of the belt and pulleys previously described and the lpaper will be forced downwardly between the platen and pressure rollers and be impressed on the printing surface in any preretermined .marginal relation to which the margin bar has previously been adjusted.
The roller 48 is held normally under down- The bar 55 adjacent the platen and pressure rollers provides a suitable guide for the paper as it passes-between the platen and pressure rollers and also guides the paper in its return 'movement between the rollers as the carriage moves forward'and 'assists in removing the paper from the gelatinized surface.
In the construction shown there is at all times avslight pressure of the platen roller against the gelatinized surface and I have found it desirable to provide ameans adjacent the platen roller for moistening the print-ing surface. This is accomplished by means of the hollow cylindrical tank'60 which is pivoted at 61 on the carriage and extends across the printing surface. The tank is adapted to eny contain water as illustrated and is provided With a suitable wick 62 for engagement with the gelatine surface. rlhe Wick is removed from contact when desired by rotating the tank by means of the handle 63.
It is obvious that various changes in the details of the construction shown may be made Without departing from the spirit of the inveiition.
`Having thus described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Let-ters Patent is:
1. In a duplicating machine, a carriage arranged to travel over the printing bed, a paper table on said carriage, a paper stop cooperating ivith said table to support paper thereon, means for adjusting the position of said 'stop relative to said table, and automatic means controlled through the normal operation of the carriage to release the paper and deliver it on the printing bed in a position dctermined by vthe adjusted position of the paper stop.
2. A duplicating machine having platen land pressure rollers and a paper table in cooperative relation, a carriage for said rollers and table, operating means for said carriage,
. an adjustable paper stop on said table adjacent said rollers, means for adjusting the position of said paper stop to provide a desired margin, and automatic means for moving said paper stop to inoperative position upon movement of the carriage operating means.
3. A duplicating machine having platen and pressure rollers and a paper table for receiving paper, a carriage for said rollers and table, operating means for said carriage, an adjustable paper stop adjacent said rollers and cooperating with said paper table, means for adjusting the position of said paper stop to provide a desired margin, means to move said paper stop to release said paper, and paper feeding means to feed said paper to said rollers to provide a. margin corresponding to the position of the paper stop.
4. In a feeding device for duplicating inachines having a carriage arranged to travel over a printing bed, means for controlling the normal movement of said carriage, a paper table for receiving paper, an adjustable paper stop supported on said table, and means cooperating With said paper stop and said carriage controlling means to release said paper on the normal operation of said carriage controlling means.
5. In a feeding device for duplicating machines having a carriage arranged to travel over a print-ing bed, means for controlling the normal movement of said carriage, a paper table for receiving paper, an adj ust-able paper stop supported on said table, means for adjusting the relative position of .sa-id stop, means cooperating With said paper stop and said carriage controlling means to release said paper, and means to deliver the paper on the ing` the position of said stop, yielding n'ieansl for holdin0F said sto a iiormall in )aber en-l gaging position, a feed roller, spring means tending to hold said feed roller in engage ment with said paper, a limited movement handle for operating said carriage, and means controlled by the limited movement of said handle for holding said feed roller out of engagement when the handle is in one position and for releasing said roller and operating said yielding means to move said paper stop when the handle is moved to the opposite liniit-ed position.
7. In a duplicating machine having a gelatinized printing surface, a. carriage arranged to travel over said surface, platen and pressure rollers arranged to deliver paper to said surface, and means on said carriage to moisten said gelatinized surface during the travel of said carriage.

In a duplicating machine having a car-j riage arranged to travel over a printing surface, a platen roller arranged for contact .vi th the printing surface, means for supplying moisture to said surface comprising a rotatable tank mounted on said carriage, and a Wick communicating with the interior of said tank, said tank being rotatable to move said Wick into and out of engagement with said printing surface.

In a duplicating machine having a carriage arranged to travel over a printing bed. a handle for operating said carriage, said handle having a limited lost motion relative to the carriage, aA paper table on said carriage, a paper releasing adjustable margin bar, means for adjusting said margin bar with rcspect to the table to vary the margin, and means operable through the lost motion movement of said handle to operate said margin bar.

In a duplicating machine having a carriage arranged to travel over a printing bed, a handle for operating the carriage and having alimited lost motion relative to said carriage, a paper table on said carriage, a paper releasing adjustable margin bar on said carriage, means for adjusting said margin bar With respect to the table to var v the margin, a paper feeding device cooperating 'ith said margin bar, and means including the handle for controlling the operation of said margin lilll bar and said paperfeeding device through the lost motion movement of said handle.

In a duplicating machine having a carriage arranged to travel over a printing bed, a handle for operating the carriage and having a limited lost motion relative to said carriage, platen and pressure rollers carried. by said carriage, means for driving said rollers through the movement yof the carriage, means operable by said platen operating means for feeding paper between said rollers, a margin bar adjustable to control the relative position of the paper, and means incluchng the handle for controlling the relative operation of said margin bar and said feeding device through the lost motion movement of thev handle.

A duplicating machine construction comprising a carriage mounted to travel back and forth over a transfer surface, an inclined table on said carriage for supporting .a sheet to be applied to the transfer surface, a platen roller mounted on said carriage for pressing the sheet on the transfer surface, and feed'- ing means for pressing the sheet against the table and feeding it downwardly therealong to he acted on by the platen` roller. A duplicating vmachine construction Y comprising a carriage mounted to travel back and forth over a transfer surface, an inclined table on said carriage for supporting a sheet to he applied to the transfer surface, a platen roller mounted on said carriage for pressing the sheet on the transfer surface, and feeding f means for pressing the sheet against the table and feeding it downwardly therealong to be acted'onv by the platen roller, said feeding Vmeans comprising a roller and a bearing frame on which said roller is mounted shiftable to movethe roller toward and from the table to bring it into and out of feeding position with respect to the sheet.

A duplicating machine construction comprising a carriage mounted to travel back and forth `over a transfer surface, an inclined Vtable on said carriage for supporting a sheet to be applied to the transfer surface, a platen roller mounted on said carriage for pressing` the sheet on the transfer' surface, and feeding means for pressing the sheet against the table and feeding it downwardly therealon to be vacted on by the platen roller, said feeding means comprising aroller and a bearing 7 frame on which saidv roller is mounted shift- Y ing thefeed roller frame.
17. In a duplicating machine, .a carriage lmounted to travel over a printing surface,
a platen roller mounted on said carriage for pressing the sheet on the printing surface, a
support on which the sheets rest prior to passing underneath `the roller, kretaining means for holding the sheet on the support movable to releasing position to permit the sheet to pass underneath the roller,.and-means for feeding the sheet to the platen roller when the retaining means are moved to releasing position.V Y A Y 18. ln a duplicating machine, a carriage mounted to travel over a printing surface, a platen roller mounted on said carriage for pressing the sheet on the printing surface, a support on which the sheets rest prior to passing underneath the roller, retaining means for holding the sheet on the support movable to releasing position to permit the sheet to pass underneath the roller, and means for feeding the sheet to the platen roller when the retaining-means Aare moved to releasing position,comprising a-feed roller engaging the sheet. i
19. In a Vduplicating machine, a carriage mounted to travel over` a printing surface, a platen roller mounted on said carriage for pressing the sheet on the printing surface, a
vsupport on which the sheets rest prior to platen roller mounted on said carriage for pressing the sheet on the printing surface, a support on which the sheets rest prior to passing underneath the roller, retaining means for holding' the sheet on the support movable to releasing position to permit the sheet to pass underneath the roller, and means for feeding the sheet to the platen rolle-r when the retaining means are moved to releasing position, comprising a feed roller engaging the sheet, said feed roller being movable into and out of engagement with respect to the sheet.

In a duplicating machine, a carriage mounted to travel over a printing surface, a platen roller mounted on said carriage for pressing the sheet on the printing surface, a support on which the sheets rest prior to passing underneath the roller, retaining means for holding the sheet on the support movable to releasing position to permit the sheet to pass underneath the roller, means for feeding the sheet to the platen roller when the retaining means are moved to releasing position, comprising a feed roller engaging the sheet, said feed roller being movable into and out of engagement with respect to the sheet, and a handle for moving the carriage and controlling the movement of the feed roller with respect to the sheet.

In a duplicating machine, a carriage pressing the sheet on the printing surface, a support on which the sheets rest prior to passing underneath the roller, retaining means i for holding the sheet on the support movable to releasing position to permit the sheet to pass underneath the roller, means for feeding the sheet to the platen roller when the retaining means are moved to releasing position, comprising a feed roller engaging the sheet, said feed roller being movable into and out of engagement with respect to the sheet, a handle for moving the carriage and controlling the movement of the feed roller and retaining means with respect to the sheet.
23. In a duplicating machine, a carriage mountedto travel over a printing surface, a platen roller mounted on said carriage for pressing the sheet on the printing surface, a support on which the sheets rest prior to passing underneaththe roller, and retaining means for holding the sheet on the support movable to releasing position to permit the sheet to pass underneath the roller, said retaining means comprising a retaining member movable upwardly to release the sheet and downwardly to retain it.
24. In a duplicating machine, a carriage mounted to travel over 'a printing surface, a platen roller mounted on said carriage for pressing the sheet on the printing surface, a support on which the sheets rest prior to passing underneath the roller, and retaining scribed my name.
