Description
N.PETERS, FHOTO-LITHOGRPHER, WASHINGTON, D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOEL WISNER, OF AURORA, NEW YORK.
WASHING-MACHINE.
Speciflcat'on of Letters Patent No. 18,483, dated October 20, 1857.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, J OEL VISNER, of Aurora, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Vashing Clothes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and eX- act description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure l is a vertical section showing the machine in working order. Fig. 2 is a plan or top of the tub showing the fluted rim on the side of the tub. Fig. 3 an inverted view of the disk or knuckle rubber. Fig. 4 an edge view of the disk with knuckle rubber shown on edge. Fig. 5 a view of the clamp in the form of a quarter moon on top and edge of disk or Vknuckle rubber, with the lower inner side serrated for the purpose of holding the clothes in connection with the spiral springs, while in operation.
To enable others skilled in the art, to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my knuckle rubber collar washing machine in the tub form, with luted sections in the bottom, short rock shaft, and tinted rim around the side of the tub, as shown in Fig. 2 letter B-the upper disk or knuckle with tluted sections and quarter moon tluted piece as shown in Fig. 3 letter O-fluted knuckle edge shown in Fig. l letter D-clamp in the form of a quarter moon with spiral springs as shown in Fig. 5 letter E-in washing collars or wristbands. I put them through the serrated clamp E Fig. 5 by which they are held in their place while the balance of shirt is getting one rubbing the collars and wristbands are getting three times as much by rubbing between the edge of the knuckle rubber and the fluted rim in the tub, so that there is no need of using the hands for rubbing afterward, by upsetting the disk or rubber over the short rock shaft in the tub there is no danger of slopping the floors.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The use of the fluted rim B, on the inside of the tub, the quarter moon knuckle edge rubber O and D, the serrated clamp with springs arranged and operating in the manner for the purposes herein set forth made of metal or wood.
JOEL VVISNER. Attest- J EDH. GITTINGS, JOHN S. HOLLINGSHEAD.
