This invention an opening arranged with what is commercially known as hookless fastener means to close and retain the opening in closed condition wherein hook and eye fastenermembers are secured to the edge of-aflexible tape attached to the marginal portions of the opening to the receptacle and movable into and out of interlocking engagement by a cam member slidable on the flexible tape, said cam member when moved in one direction being adapted to move the hook and eye members into interlocking engagement and out of locking engagement when moved in the opposite direction, and it is the object of the invention to provide means to co-operate with said cam member to lock the same against movement when moved to position with the fasteners ipterlocked and thereby secure the recepta-' e in closed condition, and to provide means c for this purpose which is-novel, simple and cheap in construction and eflicie'nt in use;
In carrying out the invention the fastener actuating cam has a pull device in the form of a perforated metal plate pivotally mounted thereon. The opening is arranged at one side or end of the receptacle and in the fastener closing position of the cam member it is located adjacent the-juncture of a side and end of the receptacle. A hood substantially of U-shape is mounted upon the back at a point within the juncture of said side and-end of the receptacle. The opposite edges of the legs of said member converge from the intermediate connecting portion and the connecting portion has a perforated extension, said hood being adapted to be swung to position to engage over and enclose the fastener actuating cam member when the latter is in receptacle closing position with the perforation in the hood in register with the perforation in the pull device when the locking means is engaged therein locking and enclosing the fastener actuating cam, and by the removalof which locking means the hood may be adjusted to position to engage at the side of the bag to permit of actuation of the 56 (fiistener actuating cam to open the receptarelates to recept'acles,such as bags, pouches, wallets and the like having In the drawing accompanying'and forming a part of this specificatlon, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a wallet arranged with hookless fastener meanswith an embodiment of my invention applied thereto and showing the same adjusted to position to permit of actuation of the fastener actuating cam to impart wallet opening movement thereto. Flgure 2 is a view of a portion of the right hand upper corner of the wallet shown in Figure 1 looking out of the top thereof and showing the locking meansmoved to inoperative position and the fastener actuating cam adjusted to partially open the wallet.
Figure 3 isa perspective view of the upper 55 right hand corner of the wallet shown in Figure 1, partly in section, showing the locking means in operative position.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the enclosing member; and Figure 5 is a perspective view of a puller pivotally carried by and to manipulate the fastener actuating cam. i
The invention is applicable to various types of receptacles, such as mail and parcel post bags and pouches of suitable material, such as fabric, leather and the like. I have shown the same in connection with a wallet adapted for use forthe delivery of securities and negotiable documents by messengers, designated in a general way at 6, and having an opening thereto in one of the longitudinal sides, as at 7. The opening is arranged with hookless fastener means, in the present instance of the construction and arrangementv shown in Letters Patent No. 1,243,458, October 16, 1917, and comprising hook and eye members 8 secured in spaced relation to the edge of a flexible tape 9 with the hook and eye members extendinglaterally from the tape and the tape attached to the wallet, as 'by stitching 10. The hook and eye portion of the fasteners are moved into interlocking engagement by a lateral flexing movement of the fastener carrying portion of the tapes spreading adjacent fasteners of the opposite tapes and in such condition interengaging the fasteners of one tape with the fasteners on the other tape, this being accomplished by a fastener actuator comprising a slider .in the form of a cam member 11 slidably mounted upon the fastener carrying portion of the tapes and adapted to move the fasteners into interlocking engagement when moved longitudinally in one direction and out of loeking engagement when moved in the opposite direction. To facilitate'imparting the sliding movement to the slider 11 a puller or finger grasping device in the formof a plate 12 having a perforation at one end and a bifurcated portion 13 at the opposite end whereby it is mounted on a rib 14 extending longitudinally of the slider to have pivotal and sliding movement thereon.
To look and enclose the slider in the wallet closin position thereof, in which, position it is at t e extreme right hand end of the-wallet opening as shown in Figure 1', a'hood or ball member 15, comprising a late bent to U- sha is mounted on the wa et in the region of t e juncture of anend and open sideof the wallet at which the slider is located when in closing position, to have pivotal'movement by a rivet 16 passing through an opening in the extremity of the one leg of the hood at one side of the wallet, the material of the wallet and a perforation in the leg of the hood at the opposite side of the wallet, and a washer 17 interposed beween the hood legs and wallet; the perforated end rtions of-the legs are slightly ofiset inwar y. The opposite edges of the legs converge from the interhood is. a
mediate and connecting portion of the hood to the perforated extremities whereby the connecting portion is elongated and said portion havin a perforated extension 18. The a ted to be adjusted to extend about the end of the wallet, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, away from the slider 11 in which position the slider may be moved longitudi nally to open and close the opening to the wallet. To inclose and lock the slider a inst movement the hood is adjusted to exten over the slideway when in closed position, as shown in Figure 3, with the puller for the slider to extend longitudinally and outward from the slider in which position the perforation therein will be in register with the perforation in the hood extension 18 when locking means may be inserted into the perforations in the puller and hood extension, such as the shackle of a key operated padlock. 19. The elongating of the intermediate connecting portion of the hood serves to enclose the slideway when inlocking position and thereby prevent manipulation of the slider and fasteners relative to each other to open and gain access to the receptacle.
While I have described and illustrated what is believed to be the preferred embodiment of the invention which fimctions to efficiently carry out the invention, it will be obvious that various .modifications may be made in construction and arrangement of parts and come within the scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
