Description
Aug. 3 1926.
E. GLICK NECKTIE DISPLAY CARD ,55 4. An upper PATENT OFFICE.
EMIL GLICK, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
NEox'rIE-DISPLAY GARD.
'Application led January rI`his invention has to do with the oart of display cards or holders and embodies a special form of card for the displaying of wearing apparel in an attractive manner.
A display card embodying my invention, as shown and described herein, is adapted especially for facilitating the sale of neckwear, through it may be embodied in other adaptations, dependent somewhat on the. naturel of the goods intended to be sold.
ln the carrying out of my invention l utilize a card bearing anv illustration provided with a cutout portion at the portion of the illustration intended to depict howA l5 the article of wearing apparel will look in actual use. The card is formed lso that such article of wearing apparel may be applied thereto so that at least a portion of 'the article will be visible through the cutout portion, and thus the display will indicate quite graphically the appearance of the particular article when actually used.
A full understanding of the invention will be had on reference to the following description in conjunction with theaccompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of a necktie displaycard and a tie aplied thereto and showing a preferred emodiment of the invention.l
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the parts that areillustrated in Fig. 1, the section being on the line 2-2 of said ilgure.
Figure 3 is a plan View of` the display card alone.
Figures 4, 5 and 6 are cross-sectional views taken on the lines 44, 5 5, and 6 6, respectively of Fig. 2. As my display card is a very simple construction and its special novelty and advantages reside in its manner of use when the article of wearing apparel is applied thereto, ll shall ,describe principally herein the way in which the article is secured to the card. At the outstart, however,it is to be noted that the card or holder designated 1,`
y bears an illustration of the bust of a boy, designated 2, and is provided with a top slit 3 transversely thereof, a bottom slit 4,
transversely thereof, an elongated o ening 5 below said bottom slit 4 with its onger dimension crosswise of the card or holder 1,
` and a longitudinal centrally disposed display opening 6 intermediate the slits 3 and end of the card 1 may be formed with a curved edge cutout 7 to fa- 16, 1926. Serial No. 81,811.
cilitate the looping around this upper end of the necktie or article to be displayed.
Assuming that the card is to be used as a necktie display holder, designed to be placed in a box or supported on a stand, or otherwise displayed, a necktie is preferably looped upon itself about centrally between its ends, as shown at 8, Fig. 2. The tie thus folded upon itself is 4arranged with the free ends thereof in front of the card as shown at 9 in Fig. 1. The body of the folded portion of the tie is then inserted through the elongated opening 5 and passed in rear of the card l and that portion thereof bearing the illustration 2. Then the said folded portion of the tie is passed through the upper slit.l 3 around the curvedvcut in upper end 7 of the card 1 and downwards in rear of the card and the portion of the tie previously disposed in contact with the rear side of said. card.
A. disposition `of the necktie looped through openings, slits and around the end of the card 1 in the manner described enablesthe pattern of the tie to be readily visible at the up er and lower portions of the card. Additlonally, however, the appearance of the tie as when in use will be shown because of the provision of the longitudinal display opening 6 which is shaped like atie and is s0 located inl relation to the illustration 2 of the bust of the boy pictured onthe card, that the appearance of the tie under actual conditionsof use will be graphically depicted.
The portion of the card '1 between the slit 4: and thev opening 5 may be provided with the word greetings, or with an inscription appertaining to abirthday, to Christmas, or the like. If the tie is looped through the opening, as shown in Fig..1, the inscription will be visible, being designated 10. However, should the article of the invention be used at a time of the year when the inscription might not be appropriate, itmay be looped through the sllt 4 over the inscription 10, and permitted to hang down over the card in such a manner as to vcover the inscription. 1f desired the card 1 may be provided with flanges 11 to sup-I port it somewhat spaced from the bottom of a box in which it may be located, or the card may have a pedestal extension of some sort to support it 1n a display position upon a counter or similar supporting means.
1n conclusion `it is note that the display opening 6 is located in relation to the loop 2 in a Aposit-ion corresponding with the position in which the article displayed will be .ters Patent is z worn when in use. a l
Having thus described'my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let- .pattern of the tie may be visible through the cut-out portion Q and thus resemble a vneck-tie as actually worn, the opening 5 being adapted to have the neck-tie passed therethrough from the back to the front of the card so as to hang down and show its y pattern to a large extent as compared with the showing through the cut out portion 6.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a display card for necktie comprising a body bearing on its surface the illustration of the bust of aperson, the card being cut away at a point merging into'the illustration to provide an opening having the outline of a necktie, and said card being equipped with means for enabling application thereto of a necktie, the major portion of which will be covered by the card so that said necktie may be visible through the cutout opening asso ciated with the illustration, whereby the manner in which the necktie will appear when worn is graphically displayed when the said necktie is applied to the card.
3. As a new article of manufacture, necktie display card consisting of a bodyI .pro-
vided with a slit at its upper portion and an opening at its lower portion, the said card body bearing on its surface between said slit and opening an illustration of the bust of a person accompanied by a display opening forming a continuation of said illustration and having outline of a necktie, the said 'slit and opening being so arranged that a necktie may be looped therethrough to pass in rear of the body of the card and to be Visible through the said display opening.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
EMIL GLICK.'
