FUSE-PLUG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 17, 1920.
Application filed June 8, 1918. Serial No. 238,908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN J. CANNING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fuse-Plugs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in multiple fuse plugs and the principal object of the invention is to provide a simple arrangement of parts whereby any one of a number of fuse elements may be placed in the circuit after one of said elements has been burned out.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and ellicient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several. parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and. specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention.

As shown in these views the fuse box consists of a brass screw threaded band 1 and a fiber shell 2 connected with said band. The box is divided into four compartments by the partitions 3 and 4 located at. right angles to each other and said partitions are connected to or formed with a bottom 5 which closes the end of the band 1. The partitions and said bottom may be made of wood or any other non-conducting material. A fuse element 6 is located in each compartment and has one end connected, by solder or the like, with the band 2 and its other end is connected with a forked bolt 7, the forked end of which engages the outer edge of the fiber case so as to be supported by the same. tach of these bolts is provided with a screw threaded part ending in a shoulder, and is adapted to receive the usual nut 8. A long bolt 9 of brass or the like is centrally arranged in the case and passes through the meeting centers of the partitions with its head on the bottom of the lower side of the bottom plate 5. The upper end of said bolt projects beyond the upper ends of the partitions and is provided with screw threads ending in a shoulder.
A switch plate 10 is held against said shoulder by means of the nut 11 and the other end of said switch plate is adapted to be connected with one of the fuse elements by means of the nut 8 and the bolt 7.
In this way if the fuse element to which the switch plate is connected should burn out it is simply necessary to connect the switch plate with another element to renew the circuit. Thus the fuse box may be used several times and it will, of course, be understood that a greater number of fuse elements may be placed in the box by providing a greater number of compartments.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A fuse box comprising a metal screw threaded band and a fiber case connected with said band, an insulated bottom in said band, partitions connected with said bottom and dividing the box into a number of compartments, a bolt passing through the bottom and the junction of said partitions, a rotatable switch plate carried by said bolt, a fuse element in each compartment having its lower end connected with the band, terminals carried by the upper edge of the fiber case with which the upper end of the fuse element engages and detachable means for connecting the switch plate with said terminals.
