' Application filed November My inventionrelates to improvements ventilating or air distributing apparatus, the present embodiment belng particularly designed and'adapted for use betweenthe.
i {upper and lower ceiling and floor walk of halls, rooms, and the like, in maintaining a substantially uniform temperature/throughout by providmg for a constant circulation of air between the portions thereof, thereby preventing the accumulation of relatively warm and cold non-circulating zones of air thereby also reducing ,the number of heat units required to establish and maintain the recglired temperature.
I inglysimple,
to the varying dem further object is to provide an exceedcheap, and eflicient apparatus of this class which may be readily adapted" ands of actual service, as well .as one which may be readily and cheaply installed in buildings of the varying and conventional designs now in use, and which, when so installed, will not impair the beauty of the architecture or in any wayinterfere with the original purposes and uses ofsuch building.
With the above mentioned and other ends in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in some of its embodiments in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims. N
eferring to the drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1, is a side elevation of a ventilating apparatus constructed and installed in accordance with this invention, the upper and lower portions being shown in central vertical section for the purpose of clearer illustration of the parts. Fig. 2, an enlarged cross sectional view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a central vertical sectional view of a modification in which the air conduit is in the formof a hollow column or pillar and the fan Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Fee. a, rare. 5,1914. Serial mfsv'aaaa a and motor are arranged within the base portion thereof.
Similar numerals of reierencedesignate like parts throughout all the figures of the drawings. 1
The improved ventilating or air 'distributing apparatus comprises a vertically arranged air conduit'adapted to be disposed between the horizontally extending walls to- .be 'heated, or in other words, between the ceiling 1, and the floor or'base wall 2. The
upper end of the air conduitis' provided.
with air induction ports 3, and the lower end of the air conduit is provided with a1r eduction ports 4., the primary obect being to take in the warmair from the ceil ng 1, through the induction ports 3, and to discharge it through the eduction ports 4, the constant suction ,or downward flow of the air being produced through the me dium of a fan 5, mounted in the lower portion of' the conduit and above the air educ- -ti on ports fl. It is apparent also that the 'ports 3 and 4, may
suitable pipe conduits room dQSlIGCL' The fan fan shaft 6, motor 7, or
ient device.
The vertically arranged air conduit is preferably detachably connected to and interposed between a flanged ceiling plate or ring 8, and a base or floor plate 9, the latter being also adapted to support the motor 7. Inthe form or embodiment of the invention 5, is mounted on a any othensuitable and convenshown in Fig. 1 the motor 7, is arranged outside of the air conduit and is adapted to drive the fan through the medium of a belt 7, and a pulley 7".
s a means of filtering the air through the eduction ports 4., the latter are preferably provided with beveled or outwardly flaring edges adapted to removably re-' be extended through" to any part of the V and is adapted to be driven by a,
ferentially movable ring valve 11, is provided, said ring valve being arranged outside of the base portion of the air conduit and above the base or floor plate 9, and being provided with openings 11, adapted to be brought into and out of registry with the air eduction ports 4.
In the formor embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings the airconduit consists of a vertically arranged depending ceiling pipe 12, and a second vertically arranged pipe 13, adjustably connected to the pipe 12, through the medium of a clamping ring 14, the lower end of the pipe 13, being connected to a fan housing 15, mounted upon a conduit base section 16, the latter being provided with the air eduction ports 1, constructed and arranged as hereinbefore described.
In the form or embodiment shown in Fig. 3, the air conduit is in the form of a hollow column or pillar 17, and the fan 5, and
motor 7, are arrangedwithin the base portion thereofso as to' be concealed from view as well as to disguise the entire apparatus in the form of an ordinary column or pillar.
. Frornthe foregoing descriptiomrtaken in connection with the accompanylng drawings,
the operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.
eduction ports,
Having thus described some of the embodiments of my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,- 1. In a ventilating apparatus, the combination with a ceiling-and a floor, and a vertically arranged air conduit pipe having air inlet ports near said ceiling; of a fan and 'fan housing mounted on said floor connected to the lower end of said air conduit pipe, said fan housing being provided with air and means for opening and closing said air eduction ports whereby to regulate the suction exerted by said fan.
' 2. In a ventilating apparatus, the combination with a ceiling and a floor, and a vertically arranged air conduit having air inlet ports near said ceiling and air eduction ports near said floor; of a'suction device within said air conduit above said air' eduction ports, and means for regulating or opening and closing said air eduction ports whereby to regulate the suction exerted by said suction device.
In testimony whereof I have aliixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
