Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a stainless steel plate of superior workability and high strength stably by subjecting austenitic stainless steel contg. C, N, Mn to a solution heat treatment, and cooling the same under specific conditions then subjecting the same to cold skin pass rolling. CONSTITUTION:The austenite stainless steel contg. 0.04-0.07% C, 0.05-0.15% N, <=1.0% Si, 0.3-2.0% Mn, 6.0-8.0% Ni, and 16.0-20.0% Cr by weight %, and consisting of the balance Fe and elements unavoidable in steel making is used in consideration of the balance of strength and ductility after skin pass rolling and further the inter granular corrosion, etc. Such stainless steel is subjected to a solution heat treatment and is cooled at >=10 deg.C/sec cooling rates between 900- 500 deg.C, after which the material temp. in roll gaps is held at 30-50 deg.C, and the drafts during skin pass rolling are selected at the values shown in the table. By this skin pass rolling, the high strength stainless steel plate of 50,60,80kg/mm.<2> class in 0.2% yield strength and superior workability is produced.
