Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase an absorptivity of a laser beam and improve its heat treatment efficiency, by applying a coating agent which mainly consists of a specific substance, when the surface of a metal is treated with heat by means of a CO2 gas laser beam. CONSTITUTION:When the surface of a metallic material such as steel, etc. is subjected to heat treatment such as hardening by means of irradiation of a CO2 gas laser, impalpable powder such as Al2O3, TiO2, SiO2, Cr2O2, CaWO4, etc., or impalpable powder such as MgF2, CaCO3, MgO, etc., which has been mixed and stirred by using thinner and lacquer as a solvent and a bonding agent, respectively, is injected and applied by use of a spray gun, etc. The former group is transparant and white or light in color, and the latter group is colorless or white. Since both of them are small in a reflection power of a laser beam, it is possible to greatly improve the heat treatment efficiency in case of harding, etc. by means of a CO2 gas laser beam.
