Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an emulsifier for synthetic resin emulsions, which is based on a monovalent unsatd. alcohol ester of a maleic anhydride-alkoxymethylacrylamide copolymer, and has the effect of enhancing the brightness, water resisting property, alkali resistance and heat resistance of paint film.
CONSTITUTION: The emulsifier for syntheitc resin emulsions usable as coatings, adhesives, etc. is made of ester of a copolymer consisting of 5W50, pref. 10W 30 wt% of maleic anhydride, 0.5W95, pref. 2W30 wt% of alkoxymethyl(meth)acrylamide and other copolymerizable monomer such as styrene, and an unsatd. alcohol having one hydroxyl group, e.g. 2-hydroxyethylacrylate. The ratio of the alcohol is 0.5W50, pref. 1W20 wt% and the average MW of the ester is 500W 500000, pref. 1000W100000.
