Abstract
921,525. Hydraulic brake reservoirs. SOCIETE STOP. April 6, 1960 [Sept. 16, 1959], No. 12135/60. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXIX] A deformable diaphragm 1 for isolating fluid in a reservoir from contamination by water or by noxious gases from the atmosphere is made of waterproof deformable and elastic materials and follows automatically the variations in the fluid level. The diaphragm may be made of elastic rubber or of polyvinyl chloride. The Figure illustrates a reservoir 2 for feeding an hydraulic braking system wherein a diaphragm 1 in the form of a bellows is held by its flange 3 between the reservoir and its cover 4 and contacts the fluid over its outer surface. A rod 6 mounted in a boss 5 on the bellows slides freely through a hole 7 in the lid 4 to indicate the level of the fluid. A notch 9 on the rod 6 can take a circlip to hold the bellows in the dotted position whilst the reservoir is filling: A loading spring (not shown) may be placed inside this diaphragm or the resilient properties of the diaphragm material itself may be allowed to put pressure on the fluid.
