Abstract
790,673. Collapsible motor-cycles. BLASI, R. D. April 12, 1956 [April 21, 1955], No. 11208/56. Class 136(3) A folding frame for motor-cycles comprises a back part 1 and a front part 2 adapted to be engaged with each other in a working position by locking means and hinged to each other so as to be capable of being arranged side by side in a folded position, the front fork comprising two components 5a, 5b connected to each other by a hinge 43 and capable of being locked in the working position by a rod 51 passing through a catch 46, the component 5a being connected to the steering column 7 by a connection 44 and the component 5b being rotatably mounted on the hinge 43 so as to enable the front wheel 4 of the motor-cycle to be raised above the height of the floor board 6. The part 5a contains a resilient cushion 48. The steering column 7 is in two parts 7a, 7b hinged together at 37 and firmly connected in the working position by a spring urged catch. The handle bars 8 may be disengaged from the steering column 7 and rotated to lie in the longitudinal plane of the vehicle. The saddle 3 forms, together with the back part 1 of the frame and two pivoted rods 9, 10 an articulated parallelogram so mounted as to be capable of being held in the working position with the saddle raised through two further rods 15, 16 hinged together at 17 and capable of being secured together by locking means 21, 22 (Fig. 4). As shown in Fig. 5, a sheet metal portion 23 of the front part 2 is connected to the back part 1 by hinges 24a, 24b. Catch members 31, 33 are provided on the front part 2 and catch members 32, 34 are provided on the back part 1. A bolt 28, actuated by a lever 25, is provided with pivoted parts 29, 30 which may be inserted in the catch members to lock the parts 1 and 2 together.
