Abstract

In apparatus for the treatment of artificial thread including a pair of rollers 1, 2 over and along which the thread can pass in a number of spaced convolutions, one roller 1 is formed as a compound roller having at least two parts 4, 5 <PICT:0681401/IV (a)/1> with co-operating teeth 7, 8 and with their axes at different angles to the axis of the second roller 2 so that differential spacing of the convolutions may be effected without impeding the advance of the thread. The part 4 is driven by the shaft 9 and the teeth 7, 8 drive the part 5, which is carried on an eccentric bearing 11. The thread 3 leaving the bath 21 and guide 22 is stretched as it moves from the stepped portions 6, 13 of the rollers 1, 2, and the regeneration is completed on the parts 4, 14, of the rollers 1, 2. A treating liquid supplied at 23 is prevented from leaving the portion 15 of the roller 2 by a band of polytetra-fluoroethylene 16. The thread is then dried in a drier 26, comprising a roller 27 and stationary rod 28 and cap-spun at 30, having received a lubricant at 29. The preferred differential spacing of the convolutions is 10 to 12 per inch at the first and 3 to 4 at the second region of the rollers. Specifications 448,774 and 645,171 are referred to.
