Abstract
528,286. Centrifugal machines. ROBINSON & SON, Ltd., T., and SMITH, L. May 3, 1939, No. 13186. [Class 231 Granular, powdered or other materials for moistening are passed down the feed spout a and then over a slowly rotating cone d across a space where 'moistening is effected by water delivered in a finely atomized condition from the holes j in a saucer-like element h revolving at high speed. The flow of material is controlled by a counterweighted flap valve b which is connected to the tap c controlling the flow of water from the nozzle f to the centre of the saucer h. The flow of water thus ceases when the passage of material stops. The flow of material may also be varied by altering the position of the cylinder e to vary the gap between the cylinder and the cone. The edge of the saucer is turned in and holds a ring i of felt or like through which the water is forced by centrifugal force to the holes j. The saucer is driven from the pulley n and the cone is driven at a slower rate through worm gear o. The arms s which carry the cone d also carry scrapers p revolving in the trough q to deliver the moistened material to the discharge shoot r. In a modification the saucer is replaced by two parallel discs with a felt ring between them, the water being delivered to the space between the discs.
