Abstract
322,226. Masterman, C. A., and Gas Light & Coke Co. Sept. 1, 1928. Refrigerating, absorption machines and systems for.-A continuously acting refrigerating apparatus comprises adsorption or absorption refrigerating machines A, B of the reversing type working out of phase with each other and comprising adsorbers 1, 4 packed with activated charcoal and connected by ducts 3, 6 with the evaporators 2, 5 disposed in the refrigerator, and steam generating coils 7, 10 heated by a burner 20 and communicating with heating coils 8, 11 in the adsorbers. The condensate from the heating coils collects in reservoirs 9, 12 and is automatically discharged into vessels 15, 16 connected to the generating coils 7, 10 respectively by the syphons 13, 14. As shown, evaporation of refrigerant, e.g. anhydrous ammonia, is taking place in the evaporator 5 and steam generated in the coil 7 is passing into the heating coil 8 of the adsorber 1 to produce generation therein. The apparatus and the quantities of adsorbent, refrigerant, and water are so proportioned that on the simultaneous completion of generation and adsorption in the adsorbers 1, 4 respectively, the condensate collected in the reservoir 12 is automatically discharged by the syphon 14 into the vessel 16 connected to the generating coil 10 of the unit B. The parts 21 of the ducts 3, 6 are provided with shelves and cooled by water coils 22 communicating with the adsorber cooling coils 23, 24. Butane and trimethylamine may be used as refrigerants.
