Abstract
A plastics holder for use in hair treatment such as colouring, highlighting, lowlighting, frosting and slicing, is formed of a non-porous flexible cellular plastics material having a face (10) provided with a plurality of adjacent parallel grooves (11) for receiving strands of hair. Different colouring mixture can be applied to the strands of hair in each groove at the same time. The front of the holder (14) may be tapered to enable treatment close to the roots of the hair. <IMAGE>
Description
HAIR TREATMENT
The invention relates to hair treatment.
The invention relates more particularly to colouring or dying selective regions of hair on a human scalp. Such effect can create highlights, lowlights, frosting and slicing. At present selective groups of strands of hair are brought together in plastic holders and placed on a non-porous plastics base sheet part of the holder and painted with a colouring mixture. The hair is then covered with a similar plastics sheet forming a second part of the plastics holder for a period of time, say 20 to 30 minutes, to allow the colour mixture to act on the hair and the dye to leach into the hair. The plastics sheets are removed and the hair rinsed to remove excess or spilled colouring mixture. Commonly near adjacent hair is required to be coloured several different colours or several shades of the same colour which renders use of current methods labourious and time consuming. It is often necessary to apply different colours s in separate distinct steps separated by many minutes. Further it is very difficult to colour the hair close to its roots because relatively wide separation is required there to allow discrete strand groups to enter different parts of the present plactics holders for application of the different colouring mixtures.
It is an object of the invention to provide an improved plastics holder for use in hair colouring.
According to the invention there is provided a plastics holder formed of flexible cellular plastics material having an exposed face formed with a number of generally parallel side by side grooves for receiving in use strands of hair and such that different colouring mixture can be applied to the strands of hair in each groove.
Preferably, the plastics material is non-porous material, in which the cells at the exposed surface, or at least in the base region of the grooves, are open structure. The plastics material may be formed from sheets of PLASTAZOTE (trade mack) which are cut at least to form the grooves.
A plastics holder according to the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. l is an isometric view of the holder.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the holder; and
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the holder.
Referring to the drawing, the holder consists of an open face 10 having five full width grooves 11 which are lOmm wide and two smaller (5mm) grooves 12 at each side. The edges 13 are lOmm wide and the holder is 95mm long. The bases of the grooves are 5mm above the rear surface of the holder at the forward end 14 of the holder and lOmm above the rear surface at the rear end 15 of the holder. The grooves are 5mm deep throughout their lengths.
In use, selected strands of hair of a person are placed in each of the five grooves 11 with the front end 14 nearer the hair roots, and colouring mixture painted onto the strands of hair in each groove. The colour mixture in all or some of the grooves can, and is usually, different to produce the necessary multiple tinting, or frosting, for example. Excess colouring mixture is absorbed at least to some extent into the surface of the holder in the grooves and/or held in the grooves by its inherent surface tension. In any event and when as follows. the holder is allowed to fall against or hang against the head of the person little if any colouring excess mixture runs off the holder, if normal quantities have been applied. The colouring mixture as is normal is allowed to remain in contact with the hair for about 20 to 30 minutes and then the holders are removed and the hair rinsed out.
It will be noted that hair very close to the roots can be coloured and, uniquely using the described holder, coloured different colours or shades very close to the roots and very close to adjacent hair strand groups.
The holder is also re-usable and simply washed, rinsed and squeezed out between each use.
The described holder may be formed by cutting from sheets or blocks or by injection mouldings. Preferably the holder is formed of non-porous light-weight cellular plastics material provided with at least a partially open cell structure, or otherwise rendered somewhat porous, in the grooves to facilitate holding of an amount of excess colouring mixture in those regions.
Claims (10)
1. A plastics holder for use in hair treatment, the holder being formed of flexible cellular plastics material having an exposed face formed with a plurality of generally parallel side by side grooves for receiving strands of hair and such that different colouring mixture can be applied to the strands of hair in each groove.
2. A plastics holder as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plastics material is generally non-porous and in which the cells at the exposed face, or at least in the base region of the grooves, are open structure to absorb excess colouring mixture.
3. A plastics holder as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the holder is formed by cutting from sheets or blocks of the plastics material.
4. A plastics holder as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the holder is formed by injection moulding.
5. A plastics holder as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, wherein the plastics material may be formed from sheets of PLASTAZOTE (trade mark).
6. A plastics holder as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the plastics holder is tapered so that it is thinner at the front end to enable the holder to be used close to the roots of the hair.
7. A plastics holder as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein the exposed face has between 5 and 7 grooves.
8. A plastics holder as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein the holder is re-usable.
9. A method of colouring hair using a plastics holder according to any one of claims 1 to 8, comprising placing selected strands of hair into the grooves of the holder and placing a different colouring mixture in adjacent grooves so that different colour is applied to hair strands in the adjacent grooves.
10. A plastics holder for use in hair treatment, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
