Abstract

To correct vertical edge blurring in elemental-area sampling type imagers a signal processor interpolates to define intermediate signal levels between the samples, this being carried out by delaying 42 a colour signal for a sample period, substracting 43 the delayed signal from an undelayed signal for the same colour and then integrating 44 the difference signal. In colour imaging on a single chip the sampling occurs at different times for different colours and the sampling frequency is frequently different for different colours, so that the colour signals exhibit sharp transitions at the boundaries of picture elements. The luminance is most closely represented by the green signal, and two 'slow' green signals Gs1, Gs2 are produced from alternate green samples and averaged 50 and then added 52 to the full green signal GF to enhance high frequency detail YH. <IMAGE>
