4869. Gibson, W. J. Feb. 27. Cooking-ranges; ovens; supports for articles to be heated.-A small oven, open at the back and with doors at its front, is fitted at the front of a kitchen range so as to be heated by the underside of the inclined grate bottom. A pivoted griller or toasting-device may be fitted inside the oven, and fittings may also be provided to allow a roasting-jack to be used in connexion with the oven. The oven comprises sides B' secured to the sides B of the fire-box, a top plate B<2>, a bottom plate B<4>, and doors B<3>, which are provided with hit-and-miss ventilators, and with mica observation panels F<2>. Two or more sets of grooves D' are arranged in the side B of the fire-box for supporting a plate D, which carries the plate B<4> and the pivoted grill D<2>. This is tilted by a lever D<3> with a cam-shaped end D<4>. Beneath the rear end of the grate A is a sloping fire-brick or like slab E, which reflects heat into the oven. A crane for suspending a roasting-jack inside the oven comprises two side rods G, fixed at their lower ends in lugs in the side walls B<1> and braced together by angle-frames G', G<2>, to the uppermost of which is pivoted a notched arm G<3>. The chain of the jack hangs through a slot G<4> in the top of the oven. The firedoors C, which replace the ordinary fire-door of a kitchen range, are pivoted by means of angled brackets H' upon pins H in lugs H<2>. An ash-box E' completes the closure of the grate front, but this is removed when the plate D is used in the lower grooves D'.
