Abstract

7175. Rude, J. March 24. Water-tube boilers; superheaters, steam. -An upper steam and water drum 6 is connected to lateral water drums 19,21 by the ascensional and descensional water-tubes 18, 20, 22, 23. The spaces formed between these tubes are provided with the sinuous superheating- tubes 1 which connect the header 4 with the header 3. Removable plates support the ends of the sinuosities. Across the rear of the boiler, and in lino with each other, are pair of drums 9, 9, which, receiving water.from the upper drum through the T-junction 31, passes the water by the longitudinal apertures 11 to a series of pipes 8 the ends of which pass into the lower branches of the watertubes 1. By means of a valve 15, communication between the drum and the tubes 1 can' be made or broken. To start the boiler, communication is made between the drum 6 and the header 4 and the lower parts of the tubes 1 filled with water. When the boiler is sufficiently heated, the valve is closed so that steam generated in the vertical tubes passes to the upper drum, and thence, by pipes 5 to the lower header 3 from which it enters the sinuous tubes for superheating and for escape from the header 4 and pipe 15. By means of the cock 13, the amount of water passing from the upper. drum to the drums 9 is regulated.
