Abstract

26,918. Lake, H. H., [Soc. Anon. de Perfectionnements MÚcaniques]. Dec. 23. Superheaters, steam ; feed - water, heating.-Steam from a water-tube boiler is superheated in two stages ; first in tubes arranged in the uptake in the manner of a feed-heater, and, second, in tubes so placed as to be subjected to the direct radiation from the furnace and to the impact of the furnace gases. The first heater may be so connected that it may be used either as a feed-heater or as a superheater. In a boiler of the type shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the first heater is formed of U-tubes opening into partitioned headers 6, and the second heater, which is built into or replaces part of tha back wall of the furnace, consists of horizontal tubes 14 arranged between vertical headers. In a boiler of the type shown in Figs. 5 and 7, the feed-heater 18 constitutes the first heater, and one or more rows of connected tubes 21 arranged in the lateral walls of the furnace form the second heater. This heater is provided with a drain pipe 23.]
