Description
(54) IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO LAWN MOWERS (71) We. CASTEL MAC S.p.A., an
Italian company of Via del Lavoro 9, Castelfranco Vento (Treviso), Italy, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent mav be granted to us and the method by which it is to be performed to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- This invention relates to a lawrn mower for gardening which affords the opportunity of adjusting the grass cutting level as a function of the user's requirements.
According to the present invention there is provided a lawn mower for gardening use.
comprising a frame mounted on wheels, grass cutting blades rotatably supported by said frame. a prime mover mounted on said frame for driving said blades, a hood for sheltering said prime mover and a bin extending from a rear end of said frame for collecting grass cuttings. wherein each wheel is connected to the frame via a respective lever fulcrumed to respective portion of a frame side and rotatably supporting the wheel's axle, each lever being provided with an abutment adapted for releasable selective engagement with each of a row of complementary seats of said frame so that said lever is settable in each of a plurality of angular positions, each angular position corresponding to a different height of the frame and of the grass cutting blades from the ground.
Preferably the hood that covers the prime mover is fastened to the frame in such a way as to be capable of swinging aoout a pivotal axis located at a front end of the frame, in order to be outspread for tying access to the prime mover for upkeep. repair or cleaning.
In addition, in the vicinity of the spot at which the hood is niv3ted to the frame for swinging, a grasping handle is preferably
provided for use in lifting the mower.
A practical embodiment of the lawn mower according to the invention is shown by way of example only in the accompanv- ing drawings, wherein: FIGURE 1 is an operas prospective view of the lawn mower, FIGURE 2 shows a plan view, partly in cross-section, of the front section of the lawn mower, and
FIGURE 3 shows the front portion of the lawn mower in longitudinal cross-sectional view, taken along the line III-III of FIG
URE 2.
The lawn mower depicted in the drawings comprises a frame 1, carried by four wheels 2, such wheels being connected pairwise by axles such as 3. The axles are supported for rotation by pairs of levers 4 (best seen in
FIGURES 1 and 3), each of which is pivoted at 5 to the frame 1 and can be set in a plurality of angular settings, to each of which a differant height of the frame 1 from the ground level corresponds, by the agency of the releasable engagement of a protrusion 69 of the lever 4, with any of the row of openings 7 formed through the frame side of 1 (FIGURE 3). Arcuate slots 8 are likewise formed through the frame 1 so as to allow a free way to the axles 3 while concurrently permitting that the levers 4 may be swung.
Between the four wheels 2, the frame 1 supports a source of motive power 9 (this can be an internal combustion angine or an electric motor) which rotates a set of grasscutting blades 10: the cutting height of the blades, of course, is a function of the level of the frame 1 from the ground, and consequently of the setting as effected by the levers 4.
As shown in FIGURES 1 and 2, the prime mover 9 is sheltered by a swingable hood 11: the latter is hinged to the front of the frame 1 and, to this end, a pin 12 (FIG
URES 2 and 3) is used to provide a swingable connection between the brackets 13, which are fastened to the frame 1, and a shaped apron 14 which is a snap fit on the front end of the hood 11. The apron 14 can also be used as a grasping handle for use in lifting the mower.
Resilient clasps 15 (best seen in FIG
URES 2 and 3) retain the hood in its normal closed position shown in solid lines in FIG- URE 3, but such slasps can be released to enabie the hood 11 to swing towards the outspread position shown in dash-and-dot lines in FIGURE 3 for giving access to the engine 9 whenever required.
The rear of the frame 1 supports a bin 16 extended to hold the grass cuttings which are forwarded to such bin by the revolving blade 10.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS:
1. A lawn mower for gardening use, comprising a frame mounted on wheels, grass cutting blades rotatably supported by said frame, a prime mover mounted on said frame for driving said blades, a hood for sheltering said prime mover and a bin extending from a rear end of said frame for collecting grass cuttings, wherein each wheel is connected to the frame via a respective lever fulcrumed to respective portion of a frame side and rotatably supporting the wheels axle, each lever being provided with an abutment adapted for releasable selective engagement with each of a row of complementary seats of said frame so that said lever is settable in each of a plurality of angular positions, each angular position corresponding to a different height of the frame and of the grass cutting blades from the ground.
2. A lawn mower according to Claim 1, wherein said hood is fastened to the frame so as to be capable of swinging about a pivotal axis located at a front end of the frame.
3. A lawn mower according to Cliam 2, wherein the hood has in the vicinity of its pivotal axis a gripping handle for use in lifting the mower.
4. A lawn mower substantially as herein described with reference to and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
**WARNING** end of DESC field may overlap start of CLMS **.
