Abstract

1421386 Phosphating solution PYENE CHEMICAL SERVICES Ltd (Oxy Metal Finishing Corp) 19 Sept 1973 43938/73 Heading C7U A phosphate coating solution, or concentrate, comprises phosphate ions, coating metal (preferably Zn ions), and lubricant particles emulsified with a cationic emulsifier, the lubricant comprising 5-50% of one or more saturated long chain fatty acids, and 50-95% of one or more long chain fatty acid esters. Suitable acids are lauric, palmitic and stearic acids, and suitable esters include fatty glycerides, lanolin soaps and alcohols and, preferably, sperm oil. The ester component may include paraffin wax, slack wax, hydrocarbon wax or synthetic waxes. Preferably emulsifiers are fatty amines and ethoxylated fatty amines. In an example, steel tubes are treated with an aqueous solution containing phosphoric acid, ZnO, stearic acid, sperm oil and an emulsifier.
