Abstract

1460276 Refuse bin cleaner JOHNSTON BROS (ENG) Ltd 27 Feb 1974 [27 Feb 1973] 9540/73 Heading B8T The interior of a refuse bin 28 is cleaned by a trailer mounted apparatus comprising power driven brush units 23, the bin being supported so that it may be pivoted from an upright position to a tilted cleaning position at which it may be drawn towards the brush units by an hydraulic ram 26. The brush units are connected via a suction pipe 19 to a bearing housing 15, the pipe being rotated by an hydraulic motor (not shown), and each brush unit which is rotated by an hydraulic motor 22 consists of rearwardly directed bristles 24 for cleaning the base of the bin and radial bristles 25 for cleaning the sides, the bin being clamped in a frame consisting of rigidly connected bands 29, 30, 35. A lower pair of rollers 38 attached to vertical bands 35 are held captive in channel members 26 and act as the pivot about which the bin rotates, whilst a similar pair of rollers at the top of bands 35 seat in channel members 26 and support the top of the bin in the cleaning position. Ram 13 may then draw the clamping frame along channels 26 until the brushes pass inside the bin, cleaning then being effected by pipe 19 being rotated whilst the brush units 23 are each rotated by its motor 22. Waste material is removed by suction pipe 19 and a secondary suction pipe 54, a second hydraulic ram 57 adjusting the position of pipe 54 relative to brush members 23. The pipe and brush units may be mounted freely and adjacent brushes may be rotated in the same or opposite directions. Auxiliary piping may be provided for the introduction of water or disinfectant during cleaning. The rear portion 42 of channel members 26 may be pivoted relative to the forward portion to reduce the length for transport purposes. A jack 45 supports the weight of the apparatus whilst in use.
