Abstract

1442630 Digital clocks EVERBRITE ELECTRIC SIGNS Inc 5 Sept 1973 41772/73 Heading G3T [Also in Division G5] A display device comprises a light source 20, an opaque plate 24 containing arrays of openings 26, 28, 30, 32 and a plurality of plates each with a plurality of apertures 39 each located in a circle and means to move each plate through a number of positions to allow light to pass through selected openings whereby in each position a different character is displayed. The apertures are arranged so that as the plates are moved the time is displayed Each plate is moved about a circle via pins 56, 60 so supported by upper crank members 40, 42, 44 46 and has a counterweight 130 attached to it. To display time the plates 34, 36, 38 are moved intermittantly by motor 74 driving a wheel 78 with a pin (80) Fig. 4 (not shown). This pin engages a notch in a level gear 84 and turns it through a specific angle before disengaging. The pin engages the next notch after a complete rotation of wheel 78. Gear 84 engages a further level gear 62 carrying the driving pin 56 of the plate. Plate 36 is intermittantly moved in a similar manner via a shaft extending from gear 84; plate 38 by a shaft 104. The time can be set manually by disengaging wheel 78 with lever 88 and rotating an enlarged portion 90 of gear 84. The openings in the front plate may contain hemispherical lenses /20.
