Abstract

1,136,918. Propanolamine derivatives. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 19 Jan., 1966 [16 June, 1965], No. 25472/65. Heading C2C. Optically active compounds of the general formula (wherein R<SP>1</SP> stands for an alkyl radical, optionally substituted by a hydroxy or alkoxy radical, and R<SP>2</SP> stands for an α-aralkyl or α,α-diaralkyl radical) and acid addition salts thereof are prepared from the racemates by resolution with an optically active acid, optionally followed by conversion to the free bases or different acid addition salts. Those compounds of the invention which upon hydrogenolysis afford laevorotatory bases, and their acid addition salts, are (3-adrenergic blocking agents and are useful in the treatment or prophylaxis of hypertension, phaeochromocytoma and heart diseases. They may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them together with a diluent or carrier.
