Abstract
1,194,140. Springs &c. STABILUS INDUSTRIEUND HANDELS G.m.b.H. 1 Oct., 1968 [3 Oct., 1967], No. 46506/68. Heading F2S. [Also in Division E2] A pneumatic or hydropneumatic spring 5 of the plunger type comprises a cylinder 14, a plunger 6 emerging into the cylinder and a compressible gas volume 16 contained within the cylinder, and a pneumatic or hydraulic damping device is provided within the spring. When the plunger is forced into the cylinder the air 16 is compressed. The damping means may comprise a piston 18 on the plunger in an oil chamber 17, and which is provided with oil flow holes or valves 19. The degree of damping may be dependent on the position of the piston in the cylinder, thus: (i) by provision of a further piston 22 having oil flow valves 23 and which acts as an additional damper only when it is inside the restricted portion 24 of the cylinder; (ii) by a similar arrangement wherein the oil flow is instead via a channel by-passing the piston and which connects the restricted and unrestricted portions; or (iii) by providing the cylinder with a wider portion (28, Fig. 3) at its top whereby no damping effect is obtained when the piston is in this portion. The valve 19 may be adjustable (Fig. 5) by means of an axially displaceable tapered valve body (35) operated from externally via a rod (37) in an axial bore of the plunger. As exemplified the spring is used in a door closing device (see Division E2).
