Abstract
1,147,240. Capacitors; resistors. STEATITE & PORCELAIN PRODUCTS Ltd. 7 Dec., 1967 [28 Dec., 1966], No. 57890/66. Headings H1M and H1S. [Also in Division H2] An electrical component, e.g. a capacitor or resistor, comprising a slab or disc 10 of material having appropriate electrical properties and bearing electrodes or terminals 11 on opposite faces, is encapsulated by a solid medium 12 which, where it overlaps the margin of an electrode or terminal, is formed as a socket 13 to receive, locate and hold a hollow plug 14 of insulating material housing a metallic connector 15, 17 or 19 by which the component is to be electrically connected to another. The plug and socket may have a screw-threaded engagement (Fig. 2, not shown). Alternatively (Fig. 3, not shown) the encapsulation at one terminal is formed as an integral hollow plug which mates with the socket in the encapsulation of an adjacent component. Assemblies of the components are suitable for use at high voltage, and discharge between them is minimized since the electrodes are completely shrouded. Discharges within the tubes 14 &c. may be prevented by coating them internally with graphite or metal.
