Abstract
1,081,321. Projectile fuzes. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. Aug. 17, 1964 [Aug. 17, 1963], No. 33538/64. Heading F3A. The fuze, upon firing of a projectile, has been placed in armed condition as shown by setback of a plunger 19. The resistance offered by a deformable washer to a thread on the plunger prevents premature arming. This has released a ball detent 18 from a rotor 10 which has rotated under a spring 13 so that an electric fuze 7 is aligned adjacent a detonator 8. A circuit through the fuze 8 is established by parts comprising a casing of the fuze, a fuze pin 7<SP>1</SP>, plunger 20, 21, spring 22, contact plate 2, a piezo-electric element 5, and an inertia body 3. On impact with a target, the p.e. element 5 is compressed and generates the detonating impulse. In another embodiment, the inertia body (3a), Fig. 3 (not shown), is enclosed in an insulating lining 6a. Upon firing, this body sets back against p.e. element 5 which engages a contact plate 2a. The parts constitute a capacitor in which a charge is thus set up. On impact a second inertia body 26 is forced against the contact plate 2a to release the detonating impulse.
