1,050,198. Methoxybenzamides. RICHTER GEDEON VEGYESZETI GYAR R.T. Nov. 24, 1964 [Dec. 3, 1963], No. 47803/64. Heading C2C. New compounds of formula where R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are chlorine or bromine, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are hydrogen, saturated or unsaturated straight or branched chain aliphatic hydrocarbon (1-4 C), phenyl, benzyl, cyclohexyl or cyclopropyl, or NR<SP>3</SP>R<SP>4</SP> is heterocyclic, or if R<SP>4</SP> is hydrogen then R<SP>3</SP> can be -CONHR<SP>5</SP> (R<SP>5</SP> being hydrogen or alkyl of 1-4 C), are prepared by reacting a compound where R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are both hydrogen or are as above, X is methoxy or hydroxy, Y is chlorine, bromine, hydroxy or -OR<SP>6</SP> (R<SP>6</SP> being alkyl of 1-6 C), with a compound HNR<SP>3</SP>R<SP>4</SP>, followed by halogenation when R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are hydrogen and by methylation when X is hydroxy. Starting materials II prepared are: 3,5-dichloro - 4 - methoxy - benzoic acid chloride from the acid; 3,5-dibromo - 4 - hydroxy - benzamide by bromination; 3,5-dibromo-4-methoxy-benzoic acid butyl and methyl esters and hence the acid and its chloride.
