Abstract

Thick strip profiles for use as spacer bars for sepg. stacked articles are made of cellular plastic moulding which incorporate at regular intervals cat or cold-moulded strips or blocks of a relatively incompressible material, e.g. a mortar. Pref. the main profiles are of expanded polystyrene or polyurethane foam and the supporting inserts are of 50-70 % silicon sand mixed with CPa 325 or CPA 500 cement (RTM-Portland) or crosslinkable resin. The base of the insert is enclosed by a layer of the cellular profile material a few mm thick, to prevent scratching of supported faces and to adopt full contact with slightly uneven supported faces. The composite blocks are lighter and superficially softer than spacers of e.g. solid wood, metal or concrete.
