Abstract
Conjugate filament of two dissimilar polymers, with a latent helical crimp and susceptible to deep dyeing, is continuously produced by generating a stream of the first polymer and a stream of the second polymer, converging them to merge side-by-side as a combined stream before extrusion from the face of a spinneret, quenching the combined stream to form a conjugate filament of two sub-filaments side-by-side, withdrawing the filament at more than 2200 mpm and winding it on a bobbin at a winding speed greater than 3000 mpm. The polymers, spinning speed and winding speed are chosen to give a filament shrinkage of more than 10%.
