Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a lubricant for saw chains, which consists essentially of water and a water-soluble antifreeze as the main components, corrosion inhibitors, wear inhibitors and adhesion promoters and in particular ensures long-term operation of the saw chain machine.
Lubricants based on mineral oil or synthetic products are used to lubricate chainsaws, such as those used in forestry to fell trees. Such lubricants are also used to lubricate stationary saws such as frame saws.
The lubricants based on mineral oil are satisfactory in terms of wear protection and corrosion behavior, but ecological concerns are increasingly being raised because they are not biodegradable due to the mineral oil.
The known synthetic saw chain lubricants consist essentially of water and a water-soluble antifreeze, preferably glycols, glycol ethers and / or trihydric aliphatic alcohols such as glycerol, optionally together with monohydric lower aliphatic alcohols such as isopropanol, as the main constituents. In addition to these main components, they each contain an effective amount of corrosion inhibitors, wear inhibitors and adhesion promoters.
The corrosion protection and wear protection additives are intended in particular to protect the chain links, the chain guide and the drive pinion from corrosion and wear. Extreme pressure additives (EP additives) may also be used for this purpose. On the one hand, the adhesive additives should have a viscosity-regulating effect and, on the other hand, should largely prevent the lubricant from being thrown off the saw chain during operation. An effective prevention is particularly related to the fact that the adhesive used has the property of making the finished lubricant thread-pulling.
The adhesion promoters used as main components in the known saw chain lubricants made of water and antifreeze may increase the viscosity of the basic components, but they fail during the operation of the saw chain machine due to evaporation of water, which means that not only its viscosity-regulating but also its thread-pulling Effect is largely lost. The adhesive additive is finally completely destroyed by the shear forces prevailing during operation.
These known saw chain lubricants are therefore unsatisfactory, in particular with regard to viscosity behavior and adhesive effect. Because of these disadvantages, they do not enable permanent operation.
The object of the invention is therefore to provide a lubricant for saw chains based on water and conventional antifreeze agents, which does not have the disadvantages of the known agents of this type. The new saw chain lubricant should not only have excellent properties in terms of corrosion protection and wear protection, but also in particular with regard to lubrication, viscosity and adhesion. It should also still be full be effective if the water evaporates partially or completely during operation of the saw chain machine, thus ensuring long-term operation.
This object is achieved according to the invention with a lubricant for saw chains consisting essentially of water and a water-soluble antifreeze as the main constituents and of corrosion inhibitors, wear inhibitors and adhesion promoters in an effective amount in each case, characterized in that the adhesion promoter contains a water-soluble polyethylene glycol and / or a sulfonic acid group and water-soluble acrylamide copolymer having a molecular weight of at least 500,000 each, in an amount of 0.05 to 1% by weight based on the weight of the agent, and that it is additionally 5 to 50% by weight based on the weight of the agent, contains water-soluble polyethylene oxide-polypropylene oxide adduct with a viscosity of at least 300 mPa s at 50 ° C.
The new saw chain lubricant surprisingly has particularly good rheological properties, a high lubricating effect and excellent adhesion. It still functions properly if the component evaporates water during operation. These outstanding properties should in particular be attributable to the special combination of the adhesion promoters and polyethylene oxide-polypropylene oxide adducts present according to the invention. These two components obviously complement each other to an unexpectedly high degree in terms of viscosity, lubrication, adhesion and rheological behavior of the agent, even if more or less large parts of the main component water are no longer present.

The liquid saw chain lubricant according to the invention is produced by mixing the individual components together. This is expediently carried out in a container equipped with a stirrer, the components advantageously being introduced in succession at room temperature and mixed with stirring.
The invention will now be explained in more detail using examples.
The amounts of the individual components of a lubricant according to the invention given in column 1 in Table I below are mixed at room temperature. The polyethylene glycol, molecular weight 5,000,000, and then the water are first stirred into the diethylene glycol provided, whereupon the present suspension is left to swell completely. Now the remaining components are again added with stirring.
The lubricant obtained has the property values listed in column II below in column 1.
In these examples, the procedure is analogous to Example 1, the lubricants according to the invention given in columns I to columns 2 to 9 being obtained. They have the property values listed in columns 2 to 9 of Table II.
Table II shows the property values of a state-of-the-art synthetic lubricant for saw chains.
