Abstract
ABSTRACT
A broom for sweeping floors and the like. The broom has a frame and a handle with straws fixed to one side of the frame and the handle fixed to the side of the frame remote from the straws. The straws terminating in a plane disposedat an acute angle to the handle so that the handle is disposed at an angle equal to the natural angle for sweeping the end of the straw thereby providing a convenient angle for sweeping without unevenly distorting the broom straws.

Description
1~74017 1 ¦ ABSTRACT
2 A broom for sweeping floors and the like. The broom has a frame and
3 a handle with straws fixed to one side of the frame and the handle fixed to the side
4 I of the frame remote from the straws. The straws terminating in a plane disposed
5 !1 at an acute angle to the handle so that the handle is disposed at an angle equal to
6 1 ~ the natural angle for sweeping the end of the straw thereby providing a convenient
7 l ¦ angle for sweeping without unevenly distorting the broom straws.
The broom disclosed herein has a handle disposed at an angle of 11 approximately 10 to the broom straws thereby providing a convenient angle for 12 sweeping without unevenly distorting the straws. The frame is a rigid generally L- ¦
13 shaped frame with a handle at one end and the straw receiving part at the other.
REFERENCE TO PRIOR ART
16 ¦ The following patents show various kinds of brushes with handles 17 I disposed at an angle to the bristles, but none of them show a broom for sweeping 18 ¦ such as applicant's: Patent No. 4,157,598, No. 3,994,037, No. 2,705,336 and No.

21 I OBJECTS ~F THE INVENTION
22 ~ It is an object of the invention to provide improved broom for sweeping.
23 ~ Another object of the invention is to provide a broom that is simple 24 I in construction, economical to manufacture and simple and efficient to use.
2~ l Another object of the invention is to provide a broom wherein the 26 1I handle is disposed at an angle approximately 10 to the broom straws.
27 I~ With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists 28 l ¦ of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, 29 1 l illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the 30 l'l appended claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, size, 31 ll proportions and minor details of construction without departing from the spirit or 32~
. I ~
;1 1174017 1 ¦ ¦ sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention. I
4 ¦I Fig. l is an isometric view of a broom according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side view of the broom shown in Fig. l.
6 Fig. 3 is an edge view of the broom.
7 ~ Fig. 4 is a top view of the broom.
Now with more particular reference to the drawing, the broom according to the invention is shown generally at l0, having a frame ll and a handle 12 12 ¦~ received in a bore in the upper end of the frame and fixed thereto. The frame l0 13 ¦ is preferably molded from thermoplastic. The frame ll has a straw receiving part 14 ¦ 15 fixed to the intermediate part 16 and extending at approximately 60 thereto.
15 ~ The thermoplastic material of the straw receiving part 15 receives the straws 13 16 ~l and the straws are thereby fixed to it by injecting the plastic material to the spaces lq ~! between the ends of the straws. The straw receiving part has a lower edge 18 and 18 ~ the lower edge has attached to it said straws. The straws each terminate at their 19 ~ lower ends l9 in an end remote from the handle and in a lower end l9 that lie in 20 ¦ a plane approximately 10 to the axis of the handle. The angle is such that a 21 'I person holding the broom handle in a natural sweeping position will have the lower 22 !1 ends l9 of the straw all engage the floor with substantially the same pressure.
23 1I With an ordinary broom, the straws adjacent the person using the broom 24 11 are distorted more than the other straws.
25 1 I The foregoing specification sets forth the invention in its preferred, 26 1I practical forms but the structure shown is capable of modification within a range 27 11 of equivalents without departing from the invention which is to be understood is 28 I broadly novel as is commensurate with the appended claims.
