Description Ian Tresman 2007-09-18 16:51:58 UTC
For accountability, I'd like to see a publicly accessible CheckUser log which shows when someone uses CheckUser, and on whom. CheckUser results are obviously kept confidential.
Comment 1 Aaron Schulz 2007-09-18 17:00:24 UTC
Well, maybe a log for listing checks on users could be used. But CUs do oversee each other and such changes will not be done until CU uses a DB, rather than the NFS.
Comment 2 Ian Tresman 2007-09-18 18:07:07 UTC
In principle they should oversee each other; but what is seen to be done, and what is actually done, could differ. A public log would provide transparency and accountability that would leave no doubt.
Comment 3 Brion Vibber 2007-09-18 18:14:24 UTC
A public log is not used as that was seen to cast unfair light on people being checked (eg, appearing to publicly accuse someone in a permanent log). The bug tracker is the wrong place to discuss or change that decision, as it's not a software issue.

Yeah, I would anticipate more labeling as well as trolling of checkusers with such a log.
