After having one of the most eventful off-seasons in many years, the Seattle Seahawks may have a long road ahead to get back to the way they were.

In the early to mid-2010s, The Seattle Seahawks were one of the most dominating teams in the NFL. One can look back at their Super Bowl-winning year in 2013 when the Seahawks were best known for their intimidating defense, as their defensive team was known as the “Legion of Boom” for many years. Future Hall of Famers, Richard Sherman and Bobby Wagner led the charge for the unit.

The Seahawks also had a viable offensive attack that contributed to much of their success during that period. Former Seahawks’ quarterback, Russell Wilson, led the team to monumental achievements over the past decade of his tenure with the franchise, as he became highly-regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in the league after going No. 75 overall in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. However, with players like Russell Wilson departing from the Seahawks, the Seattle franchise is now forced to rebuild their team as a whole. With that being said, some Seattle fans may not like this, but it may take years before the Seahawks go back to the success that they once had.

During the Seahawks’ 2020 season, they may not have had the defense from their Super Bowl-winning season in 2013, but they had a reliable offense that helped garner a dominant 12-4 record as the Seahawks captured the NFC West Title. However, since losing their Wild Card game against the Los Angeles Rams at home, it seems that any momentum the Seahawks had was down the drain after that. After having a poor 7-10 record in the 2021 season, it was obvious that changes were coming for the Seattle franchise, whether it’d be good or bad. And considering the arrival of quarterback Drew Lock and Geno Smith coming up the ranks, as he may start next season, the landscape of the Seahawks’ offensive team has drastically changed.

Whether or not Drew Lock or Geno Smith can succeed as starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks is too early to tell. However, with reliance on credible quarterbacks to compete with other teams, the Seahawks may face difficulties competing with some of these teams with top-tier quarterbacks. Even if Drew Lock or Geno Smith impresses many people this coming season regarding their quarterback ability, one question will remain: are they good enough to turn the Seahawks into a Super Bowl-contending team like they once were not too long ago?

Who knows how well the Seahawks might do this year. But one thing’s for sure, this upcoming 2022 season for Seattle will have many people’s interest, especially as their first regular season game is against the former Seahawk Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos. Get your popcorn and tissues ready because there should be a lot of fireworks and maybe some tears shed by the Seattle faithful. It’s time to usher in a new era for the Seahawks.
