Biography

Emma Irving is an Asia news editor based in Hong Kong. She helps run the newspaper’s website, app and daily news briefing. She also writes for the print paper and 1843 Magazine. Emma has discussed her work on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme and ‘Woman’s Hour’, ABC News, Talk Radio and The Economist’s podcasts. She previously worked as a news editor and a newsletter editor in London.

Before joining The Economist, Emma was the editor at The Know, a digital news startup. She graduated with a first-class degree in English from the University of Oxford.
