MATRIX Lab Undergrad Intern
Andrew is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD). During his internship, he is designing, assembling, and launching a rocket, using thrust vector control to stabilize it so it launches straight up in the air. He is working with his faculty advisor Robert Sanner, an associate professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, and Joe Copenhaver, a Research Lab Manager at the MATRIX Lab. His coursework has focused on Aerospace Instrumentation, Compressible Fluids, Controls, Dynamics, and Flight Software Systems. His technical skills include C++, CAD, LINUX, Python, soldering, and electronics. His research interests include space flight, controls, guidance, and navigation.
Andrew was in the Honors College – Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students Living Learning Program from 2021-2023. He is a Banneker Key Recipient, which is a prestigious scholarship offered by UMD to less than 1% of admitted students. He is also in UMD's Terrapin Rocket Team club. He graduated from South Carroll High School in Carroll County, Maryland, where he was involved in sports and robotics.
