의미

언어학에서 의미(意味) 또는 뜻은 글쓴이나 화자가 드러내는 바, 또 읽은이나 듣는이에게 나타내는 바를 가리킨다. 의미론에서 의미는 낱말, 구절, 문장에서 드러나는 목적이나 개념에서 유추해 볼 수 있다. 화용론에서 의미는 글쓴이나 화자가 의도한 바를 현재의 문맥으로 말미암아 유추할 수 있다.

의미가 뚜렷하지 않다면 이는 전달되는 바에 혼동을 가져올 수 있으며 현재의 문맥과는 다른 뜻으로 풀이하게 만들 수 있다.
