Venom adalah kelompok musik thrash metal yang didirikan pada 1978 di Newcastle upon Tyne, Inggris. Mereka dipengaruhi oleh berbagai kelompok musik rock, punk, dan heavy metal seperti Judas Priest, The Sex Pistols, KISS, and Motörhead. Venom sendiri memengaruhi banyak band death, black, dan thrash metal seperti Mayhem, Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Death, Testament, Hellhammer, Exodus, Eudoxis, dan Morbid Angel. Kedua album pertama mereka, Welcome to Hell dari 1981 dan Black Metal dari 1982 memelopori gerakan black metal. Anggota-anggota perintis mereka memiliki nama samaran Cronos, Mantas, and Abaddon.
