Matt Rhule may claim that he doesn’t believe there’s something supernatural aligned against it, but I’m not so sure the entire Nebraska Cornhuskers athletic program isn’t suffering from some sort of curse. After all, how do you explain the women’s basketball team getting off to a fantastic start to the season only to lose its top scorer to a torn ACL? Every once in a while, it feels like someone or something out there or up there refuses to let Husker fans have nice things.

Sophomore forward Natalie Potts delivered the news herself on social media on Wednesday. It confirmed what many people were afraid had happened during Tuesday’s 85-48 win over North Alabama that allowed NU to improve to 5-0 on the young season.

Potts started her Twitter post by saying, “#22 will be back. Trusting the process. Turning this setback into a major comeback.” She then included an image of a longer post in which she announced she was “devastated” to announce she had a torn ACL.

Nebraska Cornhuskers suffer massive hit, lose leading scorer

In the early part of this campaign, Potts led the Huskers in scoring, averaging 14.4 points per game, and rebounding with 7.4 boards per contest. She’s also second on the team in field goal percentage at 68.4% from the floor.

The No. 21 Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team will test out how they can look to move on without Potts’ 20+ minutes a game on Friday when they take on in-state rival Creighton.
