This took me a while to diagnose, because it really could have been a number of things, but after realizing that my computer kept hanging and freezing with no real respite ONLY when firefox was open, I realized it might have something to do with my browser extensions.
Some background:
I downloaded about 6GB of dictionary files (or around 15 dictionaries) from Shoui's list linked at TMW, and replaced a number of previous dictionaries with those new ones. From then, it took around one week for the slowdown to appear. Basically whenever my browser was open, peripherals were unresponsive, interaction with any program took minutes, and Task Manager reported almost 100% ram usage and cpu usage in the high 70s by Firefox. I neglected to check the in-browser resource monitor at the time to see which extension exactly was causing the problem, but after disabling all extensions and re-enabling them one by one except YT, I haven't run into any problems yet, so my guess is it's something to do with this extension
A brief look at past issues suggest a ram leak when switching profiles (#1480) that was fixed by #1645, but I can report that I never switched profiles but still experienced slowdowns. I will be reinstalling those same dictionaries in the same config as before, and hopefully if the issue reappears, I can give more precise information that may help to solve it.
