Checklist

  • I have used the search function to see if someone else has already submitted the same bug report.
  • I will describe the problem with as much detail as possible.

App

K-9 Mail

App version

8.0

Where did you get the app from?

Google Play

Android version

12 SKQ1.210908.001

Device model

Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro

Steps to reproduce

Hold an NFC token with a mailto:... link to the phone

See that the phone offers other mail programs, but not K-9

Expected behavior

Work ...

Actual behavior

Does not work.

I recently had opened issue
Add support for mailto: URI on NFC tag #7755
#7755

which was considered as a feature request and closed as implemented in pull #7804.

I just upgraded to version 8.0 of K-9, but it still does not work. The phone still offers Gmail, but not K-9.

Logs

Since K-9 is not launched, there is no logs.

To reproduce this, the first NDEF record has to be a text record. Only then will the Tag application show its UI (see screenshot in #7755).

Our apps are not be listed because the Tag app ignores activities that are disabled in the manifest. That's the case for our activity to compose messages. It is only enabled after the first account has been set up. This is so our apps don't show up as an option if they can't be used to send a message. However, this dynamic enabled state is ignored by the Tag app.

An easy way to fix this is to give up on trying to be a good citizen and simply enable the activity to send a message by default. Apparently that's what most other email apps are doing. If the activity is launched without an account being present, it will automatically launch the initial setup screen.

But on my mobile, the mail account in K-9 is setup and working, have been using it for years, and it can send messages, actual I'm sending up to a dozen per day.

I do have a new mobile phone now, Xiaomi Redmi with OS 2.0.4.0 based on Android 15, but the problem persists.
