I suck at stuff like this, and I know it, but I wanted to let everybody know that @TryCatchHCF died in his sleep on Tuesday due to cancer. (1/4)

He was in his favorite place, surrounded by people he loved, and having talked with him quite a bit over the last few months, my sense is he was very much at peace with things. (2/4)

As for me, I’ll miss our regular zoom calls, which started out with us talking about security stuff and hacking, and over time shifted to birds, ethics, and even a backpacking trip we were planning. (3/4)

He was a pretty private guy, and as such I was a little reluctant to post anything about this, but I know a lot of people cared about him and I wanted to make sure I passed the word along.

Many of you knew or are friends with my father, @TryCatchHCF aka Joe, or to me, Dad.

Tuesday morning we received the news that my dad passed away peacefully in his sleep.

I’ve written a brief remembrance I wanted to share here, where he found so many new friends.
