Brand new install and got this error when at http://feedback.mysite.local/admin/system

A PHP Error was encountered
Severity: Warning
Message: mkdir(): Permission denied
Filename: src/AutoUpdate.php
Line Number: 199

application/config is set chmod 777 (which is not the best security and I did have a blog somewhere that showed a better way to do this, which when I find I will link back here).
