As there are flags for other subdivisions of Spain, it would be nice to have the flag of the Balearic Islands too.

@lipis actually there should not be flags for any subdivisions of Spain at all, they are neither countries nor states (as they are in e.g., United Kingdom), just... regions. It's pointless to currently have es-ct, es-pv and es-ga.
If you create flags for subdivisions of countries you would be missing the point of your curated collection.

Actually you are not that far off with "football team".
Maybe i can give you a little background where my request comes from. I am a ham radio operator. In the ham radio microcosmos there are so called DXCC entities. It is a list of regions of the world which is curated by the ARRL (Ham radio organisation of the USA). Most of the time the entries are equivalent to countries. But there are much more entities than countries. For example there is a DXCC entity called Spain (EA), another entity called Balearic Islands (EA6), another entity called Canary Islands (EA8) and another one called Ceuta & Melilla (EA9).
A little bit like in football Wales and Scotland have their own national team. By the way they are seperate DXCC entities as well.

Since ham radio is a more or less apolitical hobby dividing the world like this is not for i don't know supporting seperatistic movements or so. One reason for that is for example like the french oversea regions. It is a big difference if you have a contact to a station from main land france or a french island in the middle of the pacific.

And since I want to display a corresponding flag to a DXCC entity and sometimes it is a flag of a geopolitical region of a country it would have been nice to have it in a library of flags. If this library only has flags of countries then it is not in scope of this library. But since there are flags of regions of countries or even "meta"-flags (like EU), I thought i might give it a shot and ask for the flag of the balearic islands :)

@jagomf That was the whole idea.. but the pressure and we did some decisions to include them because of other reasons! That was the whole point.. we can include them all.. there are millions of flags :)

@lipis You are the owner so it's definitely up to you.

Just for you to know, apart from UK and NZ, the only regional flags you have included up until now are casually (or not) the most "separatist" regions of Spain.

Pressure is not a good counselor, my friend ;)

I disagree. Curation does not have to mean (& IMO should not mean) exclusion. Additionally, least some of the regions of Spain are autonomous regions. Each of the regional flags with spain represents distinct ethnic, cultural, & in some case linguistic, parts of the entirety of Spain. The same could be said for the regional flags of any country.

This thread has prompted me to include Navarre in a contribution I am offering to the project. I've dowloaded the Balearic flag to look at doing that as well.

Wrong. All regions in Spain have exactly same autonomy. Even if they are more separatist, they all have same status. Actually first level subdivisions in Spain are called "comunidades autónomas".

So again, if flags were included for cultural reasons, all regions in all countries of the world would have the "right" to be there.

Not wrong. All is just the largest version of some. That may be semantic, however the semantics in my original statement is that I was speaking only of the ones I had knowledge of (having read them described as "autonomous communities") & not presuming to know that applied to all.

So again, if flags were included for cultural reasons, all regions in all countries of the world would have the "right" to be there.

I'm a big advocate of representation, & in that I believe that identifiable groups that can be represented with flags deserve that representation. Again, curation does not have to mean (& IMO should not mean) exclusion. Nobody is expecting you to do it, so why be obstructive? I picked up this particular one because it was a rather trivial side quest while doing the ones that I want.

Here in Australia, if I was doing work pertaining to Aboriginal Australians, Torres Strait Islanders, South Sea Islanders, or my home state of Queensland, there are flags that serve better than the Australian flag (& 2 are in my pull request). My actual work is concerned with Turkic & Mongol cultures. Many of those groups are within the Russian Federation but are not well represented by the Russian flag (which I already use to indicate Russian language). I'm here to contribute the flags that serve my goals. If they're accepted & prove to be usefull to someone else as well, that seems to me a good result.
