A critical component of a modern ventilator is a method of measuring Tidal Volume. This is an measurement of the amount of air exchanged on each inhale/exhale measured in mL. This can also be used to calculate the Minute Volume, which is the amount of air exchanged in 60 seconds. Another way to measure tidal volume is to create a flow sensor that is accurate and stable enough to be integrated over time to estimate volume. Sensors for measuring this in ventilators are one of the most expensive components, and are in short supply. This milestone is to create both a links to supply of existing parts used in ventilators, as well as aggregate efforts looking for alternatives.
